Class 4 Homework

Homework this week is on dividing numbers by 10 and 100 which we have been practising over the last fortnight. The children have been taught that the numbers don’t change, they just move their place value. We have used place value charts to help them practise this and included decimal numbers and some problem solving. If there are any difficulties please ask. Many thanks.

Since returning to school the children have continued to revise Set 1 sounds. We have focused on the first 10, and used these to form CVC words.

Some children have looked at some trickier digraphs and even a trigraph in Set 2. They have then had a go a writing words with these sounds in and thinking of and saying a sentence.

Thursday performance

Well done to all the children in Classes 3, 4 and 5 for their fantastic performance on Tuesday evening and thank you to our wonderful audience!

Please can children be at school for 5.30 on Thursday and, if you are not coming to watch the concert, children can be collected at 7.30 pm. The Hall will be open from 5.30 and FOBs will be serving refreshments before the concert and during the interval.

Class 3 English Lesson

Something very strange happened in our class this morning….when we came back from playtime, there were lily pads, puddles of water and a frog in our class room! The children became detectives trying to find out what had happened. They worked really hard to come up with open ended questions to ask the witnesses. We then found another clue….it was the storybook ‘Tuesday’. We looked at it together and came up with possible answers about what could’ve happened in our class today.

This was the introduction to our new English unit of work on the book Tuesday which we will be continuing for the next few weeks, starting with recount writing.

Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week in English we have started to look at a new book, called Beegu, that we will continue to focus on every Thursday and Friday. The children have listened to part of the story and discussed it so far in a lot of detail, they have acted out the first few pages and created freeze frames during their role play. Today they began to make predictions about what may happen later in the story.

Maths: We have began to look at addition this week and have been recapping on their number bonds to 10. This will continue next week with the children learning how to partition numbers into parts to make a whole number.

Geography: The children were introduced to our new topic ‘Jungles and Rain forests’ on Thursday. To begin the lesson, the children were asked to write down as many facts as possible about jungles and rain forests, I am very impressed with what they already know! We then looked at jungles around the world and learned that they are mainly found near the equator as this has warmer, wetter conditions.

I sent home a curriculum letter yesterday with the children, providing an overview of the lessons this term. Here is a copy in case it didn’t find its way home!

The children made us very proud this morning in their Nativity! I want to say a massive ‘WELL DONE!’ and thank you for your continued support with this. We hope to see you Monday at 6pm for the final performance.

Class 4 Update

Welcome back to another busy term!

The children have enjoyed starting our new novel and we have been focussing on the 4 main characters and exploring them through role play, discussion and character mapping.

In maths we have really focussed on multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 in a variety of ways and using different maths equipment.

We have started our new science topic on ‘Earth and Space’ by exploring what we know already about this topic and by identifying some ideas that we are less sure about and need to explore this term. The homework this week links to this and will give children an opportunity to research independently.

Weekly News 5th January 2018

Welcome back and thank you

It has been lovely to see the children’s smiling faces again this week and listen to what they have been up to over the holidays!

Thank you for all your support and understanding with the school closures and changes to arrangements before the end of last term. We were faced with very unexpected and challenging circumstances but we are looking forward to a new term and an exciting new year.

Rearranged performances

A huge well done to Class 1 and 2 for their Nativity performance this morning. Considering they have had a break of several weeks they performed fantastically and with clear enjoyment. This is the first time that it has been such a young group performing the Nativity, made up almost entirely of just Reception and Year 1 children, which makes their achievements even more amazing. Thank you to everyone who was able to watch the performance this morning and we look forward to seeing you at the next performance on Monday evening at Bicton Church.

We are also looking forward to seeing Classes 3, 4 and 5 perform their Christmas concerts next Tuesday and Thursday and celebrating all their hard work. Please can children arrive at school at 5:15 p.m. for the Nativity and for the Class 3/4/5 concerts.The school hall will be open for parents for the Tuesday and Thursday performances from 5:15 p.m. and thank you in advance to FOBs for offering to serve refreshments on both nights.

Please remember that there is no Film Club on Tuesday.

Speeding

Concerns have been raised again about the speed of some parents driving to and from Breakfast Club. The safety of all members of our school community is paramount and we would therefore ask drivers to slow down so that nobody is seriously injured. Thank you.
