Class 4 Update

Welcome back to another busy term!

The children have enjoyed starting our new novel and we have been focussing on the 4 main characters and exploring them through role play, discussion and character mapping.

In maths we have really focussed on multiplying and dividing  numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 in a variety of ways and using different maths equipment.

We have started our new science topic on ‘Earth and Space’ by exploring what we know already about this topic and by identifying some ideas that we are less sure about and need to explore this term.  The homework this week links to this and will give children an opportunity to research independently.

Weekly News 5th January 2018

Welcome back and thank you

It has been lovely to see the children’s smiling faces again this week and listen to what they have been up to over the holidays!

Thank you for all your support and understanding with the school closures and changes to arrangements before the end of last term. We were faced with very unexpected and challenging circumstances but we are looking forward to a new term and an exciting new year.

Rearranged performances

A huge well done to Class 1 and 2 for their Nativity performance this morning. Considering they have had a break of several weeks they performed fantastically and with clear enjoyment. This is the first time that it has been such a young group performing the Nativity, made up almost entirely of just Reception and Year 1 children, which makes their achievements even more amazing. Thank you to everyone who was able to watch the performance this morning and we look forward to seeing you at the next performance on Monday evening at Bicton Church.

We are also looking forward to seeing Classes 3, 4 and 5 perform their Christmas concerts next Tuesday and Thursday and celebrating all their hard work. Please can children arrive at school at 5:15 p.m. for the Nativity and for the Class 3/4/5 concerts. The school hall will be open for parents for the Tuesday and Thursday performances from 5:15 p.m. and thank you in advance to FOBs for offering to serve refreshments on both nights.

Please remember that there is no Film Club on Tuesday.

Speeding

Concerns have been raised again about the speed of some parents driving to and from Breakfast Club.  The safety of all members of our school community is paramount and we would therefore ask drivers to slow down so that nobody is seriously injured. Thank you.

Christmas Concert Dress Rehersal

Dear Parents/Carers,

The children will be having a dress rehearsal for their Christmas Concert on Monday so please can you ensure all children have their costumes in school. Just a reminder that unless you were told otherwise before Christmas, your child needs to bring in a dark pair of bottoms, a white top and a Christmas jumper or party wear.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Barratt, Mrs Conde, Mrs Foster, Miss Carr

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: The Year 2 children this week have started their new scheme of work called ‘Read, Write, Inc’ which is something they will be doing every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from now on. This involves daily reading, daily phonic practice and different types of writing activities. They have really enjoyed this so far and have been working very hard!

The Year 3 children have been continuing to learn about prepositions and have moved onto learning about prepositions of time. They have been practising using these within their writing. They also completed a reading activity this week where they were asked to read some information and answer questions about it.

Maths: We have moved onto column addition this week. This has been very practical with the children using base 10 and counters in place value columns to help them add together two 2 digit numbers (year 2) or 2 three digit numbers (year 3). Children who have shown a good understanding of the column method for addition (no re-grouping yet) have been challenged to prove and explain their answers using pictures and verbal explanations and they have also done missing number problems and problem solving activities.

Geography: The children were introduced to our new topic of ‘Our Kingdom’. We did a number of different game type activities to find out what we already know and what we would like to find out. We found out the names of the four countries that make up the UK.

PE: The children continued with their gym lessons this week.

Computing: The children had a revision lesson on scratch this week using the ipads. They will progress onto using the laptop version next week.

The children have not been set homework this week due to next week being a busy week with the Christmas Concert performances. The children are still expected to practice their spellings and do their spelling sentences though.

Well done Class 3 for making a good start to the term!
