Weekly News 05.09.14

The first week has ‘flown’ and the children seem to have enjoyed their new classes and are settling into their class routines well.

Clubs

Football Club for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will restart on Tuesday 9th September. It will finish at 4:30 and children may go in to Film Club afterwards but will still need to pay £1:50 for Film Club please.

Please could we ask that any monies for Clubs (Craft, Film or Breakfast) be in envelopes clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.

We had a fantastic turnout at our Cross Country Club today and children who had not taken part before joined in very well. Thank you to the adults who accompanied us.

Hope you all have a good weekend and thank you as always for your support.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all the children and their families;  it was lovely to catch up with several parents this morning.

Staff have been really impressed and pleasantly surprised with how children in all classes have settled into school today. Children were all keen to catch up with and make new friends, as well as share their news and scrapbooks from the summer holidays.

Clubs

The after-school clubs are currently being updated on the website calendar.  Please could we ask you to write a message in your child’s home-school/link book if they are staying for clubs; hopefully older children will be able to remember if they are staying! This will save Mrs Jones or Mrs Neal having to contact you if your child is unsure about after-school arrangements.

Free school Meals

Further to the letter you received from us before the end of last term, just a reminder that all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are now automatically eligible for free school meals.  Could we please ask that you still inform school if you are in receipt of welfare benefits, as this may entitle Bicton School to register for additional funding.

Many thanks.

Library Books

In preparation for introducing our new lending system in our Library next term, we will be asking children in September if there are any particular books or authors they would like to see more of and borrow from School. Staff will then compile a ‘wish list’ based on the children’s suggestions and try where possible to accommodate children’s requests when ordering new books using the money received from FOBS.

If your child has any books which they no longer read, we would be very grateful for any books you are able to donate.

Thank you in advance for your support.

FOBS

On behalf of all the staff and children, I would like to thank FOBS for their support and for giving up so much of their time this year. It has been a very successful year for them thanks to their tireless efforts to organise events and through parents’ and friends’ support at these different events.

Shortly before we broke up for the summer holiday, FOBS presented School with a cheque for £2,300 which included £1,500 towards new books for our Library and money towards planting up the different garden areas, as well as a contribution towards each class visit made this term.

The children have already and will continue to benefit from this much appreciated contribution.

Thank you again.
