Welcome Back

The children seem to have settled back into school life easily and were all very keen to share their summer holiday news yesterday.  We have been very impressed with how our new Reception children have settled in so well and seem to be getting used to daily routines quickly.  Welcome also to Luca and Addison in Classes 1 and 3.

School Dinners

Please remember that your child is entitled to a free school lunch if they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meal scheme.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, it is important that you still apply for free school meals as this may entitle school to receive Pupil Premium funding which can be used to support your child.  Application forms are available at the school office.

Flu Vaccinations

Year 1 and Year 2 children will be bringing home a flu vaccination letter and consent form today; please can the consent forms be returned to the school office as soon as possible. If you have any queries regarding the vaccination, please see the information on the small noticeboard at the front of the school or speak to Helen or Lisa at the school office who will try to answer any queries.

After-School Clubs

We are currently in the process of arranging after-school clubs for next week onwards and the website will be updated as soon as we have done so.

Many thanks.

Homework Policy

The staff have reviewed and updated our homework policy over the summer term which has been discussed, amended and agreed by our Standards and Curriculum committee governors in a recent meeting.  We have taken into account the responses received in our summer term questionnaire and hope that you will find the policy helpful.  If you have any questions after reading the policy, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or your child’s class teacher/s when we return to school.  The policy can be found on our public page or by clicking here Homework Policy August 2015.

Clubs

Some of the after-school clubs will be changing in September and we will update the website as soon as these have been arranged when we return to school.  The clubs shown for the first week back from Tuesday to Friday are up-to-date but some may change from the second week onward i.e. Games/Modelling Club and Sewing Club may need to change to a different day.  Please remember to check the website for clubs information.

From September, we will also display a list of each week’s clubs in the noticeboard by the main entrance.

Uniform

Please could we remind you to label all of your child’s uniform, P.E. kit and footwear for when we return to school.  This would be a great help to staff and children and hopefully will prevent too many items going missing next term.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays!

Good Bye and Good Luck

Over the summer holidays, Mrs Clair Barker has received confirmation of her place on the School Direct Teacher Training programme and will sadly not be returning to Bicton School in September.  On behalf of everyone at Bicton, we would like to say a huge thank you to Clair for all her hard work over the past few years and for everything she has contributed to the life of the school. We will all miss her greatly but wish her the very best of luck in what promises to be a very bright future ahead of her as a teacher.

If you would like to send Clair a card when we return to school, we will make sure that these are passed on to her.

Thank you – Defibrillator fundraising update

Our fund raising efforts for a defibrillator have received a huge boost this week! Many thanks to Holy Trinity Church, Bicton for donating the proceeds of yesterday’s coffee morning; the event raised just over £200 which is a fantastic amount.

Thank you also to the trustees of the Brethren’s Meeting Hall on Holyhead Road from whom we have received a donation of £200.  These generous donations mean we now have almost £1,000 towards the cost of the defibrillator and outside cabinet so we should hopefully be able to raise the rest of the funds in the autumn term and get the equipment ordered.

Many thanks

On behalf of all the staff, thank you for your kind words, cards and gifts at the end of term.

Thank you also for the comment forms, in response to the end-of-year reports, that were returned on the final day of term.  We really do value any comments you would like to make so please feel free to post any comment forms to school or keep the form safe until we return to school in September.

If you need to get in touch with school, regarding any queries over the holidays, the emails are checked most days and we will endeavour to respond as soon as possible.

We hope you have all enjoyed the first week of the holidays so far and wish you a wonderful summer!

Thank You Message From Mr Davies

Mr Davies called in to school with a card, at the end of term, and asked if we could post his message on the website for you all to see:

To all the Staff, children, Parents and Governors of Bicton School,

Thank you all for your generous, kind and entertaining thoughts during the assembly.  I wanted to say more but, unusually, was stopped in my tracks by an emotional tsunami!

Thank you again for what you did.

I will miss Bicton.

I will miss you all.

Enjoy the break.

Best wishes

Mark

Weekly News 10th July 2015

Thank you to everyone who attended our assembly this morning and made it such a special occasion for Mr Davies.  He was overwhelmed by the wonderful tributes paid to him from the children and the staff were so proud of how fantastically the children performed and held it together when things got a little bit emotional! Mr Davies has promised to send a photo of whatever he buys with the kind donations received and we thank you again for your generosity.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly

As mentioned this morning, everyone is more than welcome to join us next Thursday at 10:30 to watch the Year 6s’ performance – tissues definitely needed!

Choir – Bicton Summer Fair

The choir are performing at the village summer fair tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock.  They have been busy practising songs for the event and we hope to see as many children there as possible.

Celebration Assembly

If you would like to make a donation towards Mr Davies’ leaving gift, it can be left at the office in an envelope.  Many thanks for the donations received so far.

Please remember to use the village hall car park once the school car park is full, rather than park on Bicton Lane.  We aim to start the assembly at 9:25 and hope to see as many people there as possible to join us in celebrating the children’s achievements and to say goodbye to Mr Davies.

Shropshire Sings

We have only had a small number of replies from children to say that they are taking part in Shropshire Sings on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, if we do not receive more replies on Monday we will sadly have to withdraw from the concert.  If this is the case, we will let everyone know on Monday and money for tickets already purchased will be refunded.

Year 5 Parents’ Lunch

Year 5 parents and grandparents are welcome to join us for lunch next week any day from Tuesday to Friday.  Year 6 parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters etc can join us for lunch following the Leavers’ Assembly on the last day of term on Thursday 16th July.

Sunsafe

Thank you for sending children in to school with a hat and with suncream applied.  There is always water available for children to get a drink in school but they might want to bring in their own bottle of water to drink during the day.

KS1 Athletics Festival/Year 6 Science Day

Please can permission slips be returned for the above events at The Corbet on Wednesday 8th, if you haven’t done so already.

Mr Davies – Leaving gift

Mr Davies has kindly accepted our invitation to attend our Celebration Assembly on the morning of Friday 10th July.  We would like to buy a gift for him to show our gratitude for all he has done for the school since he started working here in 2003.  If you would like to make a contribution towards the gift, please could it be given in to your child’s class teacher or the school office in an envelope.  Thank you.

Bicton Summer Fair

The choir will be singing at the village fair on Saturday 4th July. (Time to be confirmed)

Reporting absence

Please could we remind parents and guardians to telephone school before 9:30 if your child is ill and will not be in school. A message can be left on the answerphone if the office is not manned.

At this busy time of year, with lots of different events happening, please could we ask that any money sent in to school is in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, class and what the money is for.
