Weekly News 28.04.17

We’ve had a fantastic first week of term and the children have settled back into school quickly.  Welcome to George and Bella who have joined Classes 4 and 2 – we can see that they have already started to make friends and are sure that they are going to be very happy in our school.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers

We are still collecting the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers, if you have any at home.

Condover Trip – Lost Property

If your child brought anything home in their bag/suitcase by mistake that does not belong to them, please could you leave it at the school office. A Year 3 child mislaid an electric toothbrush and a water bottle.

Year 3/4 Swimming

As it is a bit of a rush trying to get back to school for the end of the day after swimming, it would be a great help if children could bring flip flops or slip-on shoes to wear for coming back to school. This will save a lot of time if children do not have to put on socks/tights and shoes at the end of the session. Thank you in advance for your support.

Year 6 SATs Booster – change of day

Year 6 SATS booster next week will be on Tuesday 2nd May due to the Bank Holiday. During SATs week, booster will revert to Monday and we will run a second session during SATS week if possible.

Clubs

Thank you for the positive response to the changes to clubs. Please could you ensure that all monies are in a sealed envelope labelled clearly with your child’s name, the amount and which club(s) the monies are for.  Ideally, monies should be sent in at the start of the week.

Hope you all have a good Bank Holiday weekend – see you on Tuesday!

Years 3 – 6 Research study

Get Involved in a National Research Study!

Our school is taking part in a national research study about child anxiety funded by the National Institute for Health Research.  We are hoping as many families as possible with children in Years 3 – 6 will get involved.  The research team from the University of Reading are really keen for a broad range of families to take part, including those with children who are confident, those who are anxious and those in between.   We are sending home information about the research study, together with some short questionnaires.  You can also find out more about the research, agree to take part and complete the short questionnaires here:

As a way of saying thank you, the University of Reading will provide our school with £1 for each complete set of returned questionnaires (parent, child, teacher) – so it’d be great to get as many families involved as possible!

Free Training for Parents and Guardians

Shropshire parents of children aged between 6 months and 18 years are being offered the chance to complete the popular ‘understanding your child’ course for free.
The course has been developed by the Solihull Approach team; health professionals working together with parents and practitioners to support a child’s emotional development, behaviour, and relationship with their parents.
Now Shropshire Council is offering all parents in the county the chance to participate in the course by providing them a free online access code.
The course is 11 modules long and each module takes about 20 minutes. There are interactive activities, quizzes, video clips and practical handouts.
The modules cover: how your child develops; understanding how your child is feeling; tuning into what your child needs; responding to how your child is feeling; different styles of parenting; having fun together; the rhythm of interaction; Why is sleep important; Self-regulation and anger; communication and tuning in, and looking back and looking forwards.
To access the course visit https://inourplace.co.uk/learn-now/  And type in the code SHRPSAPASNT

Well done Nikki!

IMG_0249

I went to London to surprise Nikki in the hope of catching sight of her and cheering her on.  (You can just about see her back next to a runner in orange!). A family standing next to me shouted her name as well so that she would hear and the smile on her face when she spotted us is something I will always remember.

Well done Nikki from everyone at Bicton ?

Latest Marathon News From Nikki…

Mini marathon/London Marathon update

Class 1 436
Class 2 535
Class 3 1162
Class 4 1218
Class 5 815

A total of 4116 laps were completed by the whole school, including the staff, although not all the staff’s laps were recorded so the total distance will actually be even greater!
Almost all children covered at least 10 laps, which was 1 mile. The most laps done by a single pupil was 69, which was achieved by both Kieran and Jack from Class 4.
The total distance covered was 411.6 miles. So how far would that take us?
Well………
We could go from school to the start line at Greenwich Park which is 187.4 miles, then we could do the marathon course of 26.2 miles. We could even have a day or two walking around seeing the sights of London to cover 25 miles and then we could travel back to school from St.James Park. Wow that’s some distance we covered. Well done everyone.
The money raised has been amazing; we would love to give you a grand total as soon as possible, so if you have a sponsor form and money still to return, it would be great if we can have them in the week the children return to school.

My training is all done and I am doing short gentle runs now while my body recovers from all the training and gets me ready for the big day. I need to get lots of early nights in now to catch up on sleep, but that’s hard when the marathon is always on my mind. My latest stress has been getting from my hotel to the start line on the day. I think I’m  sorted now?and just need to pack my bag!
For anyone who would like to follow my progress on the day to check that I actually finish, there will shortly be an app available which you can download and also you can go onto the Virgin London Marathon website and track from there. My running number is 54967, registered as Nicola Cooke.
I’m not a fast runner, so don’t check in too early! The most important thing is for me to go and enjoy the day as much as I can. But yes, I do have a time I would like to do it in and I’m hoping I get over the finish line within 6hrs. So we will see. ??
Thank you to everyone for all the support I have had over the last few months; it has been very much appreciated.

If anyone has missed out on their child’s sponsor form and would like to donate or anyone that would like to donate to my page here is the link

Thanks
Nikki

Mrs Johnson’s group – Aerial trek

Well done to everyone in the group, as they all completed the aerial trek this afternoon, and yes it is as high as it looks which I can personally vouch for!
