Head Lice

We have been made aware that there are a couple of cases of head lice in school at the moment. Could we please ask that you check your child’s/children’s hair carefully and use appropriate treatment if you find that your child is affected before they return to school.

There are leaflets available at the Office with the latest information on how to treat for head lice but if you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to speak to myself or another member of staff.

Thank you for your support.

Weekly News 16th January 2015

The children in all classes seem to be really enjoying their new topics and we are grateful for any resources that children have brought into school linked to their class topic.

Weather

Well done to all the children for their sensible behaviour on the playgrounds, when it was very frosty on Wednesday morning.  I have reminded the children in assembly this morning about not running when there is snow or ice and the need to avoid looking for ice to skid on!

Football Club

Now that the nights are a bit lighter, we are able to restart football club from next week.  Football Club for Reception/Years 1 and 2 will restart on Tuesday 20th and will run until 4:15 pm. Children can then go into Film Club if they wish until 5:30 pm and will still need to pay for Film Club as last year.  Football Club for Years 3 – 6 will restart on Wednesday 21st and will finish at 4:30.  The School Office will put this on the calendar by the start of next week so don’t worry if it doesn’t show on the calendar straightaway.

Year 6 Booster

Booster Club for Year 6 will restart on Thursday 22nd and will run from 3:15 until 4:30 every Thursday up until SATs week.  It would be great to see all Year 6s there!

Letters home this week:

Years 3 and 4 Stottesdon meeting

Year 6 Dodge-ball tournament (children involved)

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Penguins in Class 1

This week the focus in Class 1 has been all about penguins and the children have had lots of fun finding out about them and sharing their knowledge with the rest of the class.  Here are some of the activities they have done…

Penguin potato printing:

Independent activities – making penguins using a range of materials and small world objects:

Writing information booklets about penguins – the Year 1 children worked hard to use the topic books to find out lots of interesting facts:

Making penguin movements / dances – the children even tried to pass the ‘penguin egg’ to each other without dropping it which proved quite tricky!

In numeracy the children have been looking at numbers and place value.  The Reception children have been ordering numbers up to 10 and practising their number formation.  The Year 1 children have been counting in 10s and finding one more and one less with numbers up to 20.  Some have even looked at numbers past 20.

On behalf of all the staff, thank you all for your support in the last week of term with all the events taking place. Classes 4 and 5’s Carol Service on Thursday evening was a great success and there were smiles and much laughter all around at the Nativity on Friday morning.

Thank you also for our many cards and gifts and we all hope you have a happy and hopefully restful Christmas!
