Class 6 update

This week the children have been doing assessments so have not had any maths lessons this week.

English

The children received letters from WW1 soldiers which they imagined were from a member of their own families.  They then worked on writing a letter back to the soldier in the trenches.

History

We explored the technology of WW1.  The children chose a weapon to research in more detail and produced a Top Trump card to show key facts about the weapon.

Science

The children learnt about the different structures that are in our lungs and how oxygen is taken through our body.

Safer School update

We had a very successful Safer School group meeting on Monday afternoon. Ian Bartlett, sent the following report after the meeting:

The involvement of Bicton CE Primary School in the ‘Safer Schools’ initiative is excellent. Mrs Johnson recently held a ‘Safer School Group’ meeting with staff/governor, pupils and myself representing Shropshire Council. The Police normally attend but were unavailable and sent their apologises. A thorough meeting, covering all aspects of the security/safety process. This included a pro-active approach to security/safety, reflecting on any school issues and planning for the future. Part of the Safer School process includes consultation with parents/carers/pupils and during the meeting, we reviewed the parent/carer and pupils surveys. Reassuringly, the survey results were excellent and included some good observations. The meeting was really positive, with an excellent contribution by the pupils. Overall, an excellent example of ‘Safer School’ involvement – well done to Mrs Johnson, governors, staff and pupils. A future meeting will be held in the Spring term 2020.

 Ian Bartlett

Crime Prevention Officer

Shropshire Council

The responses to the survey will be published next week and the School Council are now working with Mrs Johnson on a number of initiatives in response to the comments made by parents and pupils.

Class 6 update

English

This week the children have written their own story of a soldier going to war and being in the trenches.  They have tried to write some of their story in first person and present tense to make it more dramatic.

Maths

We have continued our work on decimal numbers by practising how to multiply and divide them by whole numbers.

History

This week the children turned the classroom into trenches and role played what they thought would happen.  They then wrote diary entries based on their experiences.

Science

In science this week the children had great fun making ‘blood’ smoothies.  We used the 4 components of blood cells in our smoothies, and talked about the role and appearance of each one.

Art

The children started their ‘Habitats of the World’ art projects this week.  They have made a fantastic start and will be continuing this over the next couple of weeks.
