Class 5 Homework

New homework has been set today and is in your child’s homework book.

This is some further practise of the grammar work that we have done this week on relative clauses.

This is due back by Wednesday 20th September.

Thanks

Class 5 Weekly Update

We have had a brilliant first week back in Class 5.  The children have all settled back into school very quickly, and have been impressing Mrs J and I with their brilliant attitude to their learning.

English

We have started our new novel study of Macbeth.  We analysed a description of Macbeth and thought about what sort of person he must be.  We then retold the story of the battle between Norway and Scotland, showing Macbeth as the main character.

Maths

We have been working with numbers up to 1 million (Year 5) and 10 million (Year 6) this week.  We have been consolidating our knowledge of place value, reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers represented in different ways.  We have also been applying our reasoning skills to solving problems involving place value.

History

We started our new topic of Ancient Egypt this week.  We placed Ancient Egypt onto a timeline and talked about other eras that we knew and placed those as well.  The children then researched 6 major events that occurred during Ancient Egyptian times and placed them onto a timeline.

PE

The children have enjoyed their first session with Mr Bebb this week, playing high-five netball.

Homework

Homework and spellings have gone home today.  The homework is a reading comprehension which I would like the children to complete independently.  This is due in by Wednesday but if the children are struggling then they can bring it back on Monday to go through with Mrs J or I before Wednesday.

Spellings

Spellings are to be practised within the spelling book following the instructions on the sheet.  Children should then choose four of the spellings to write in exciting sentences on the next page of their book.  The spelling test will next Friday.

Class 5 Homework 10.03.17

Children have been set a piece of Maths homework today to reinforce work we have done this week on finding area of shapes.  Hexagons group are expected to complete all of the sheet but children in Pentagons, Circles and Triangles do not have to complete the “Now try this!” task.  Please encourage your child to complete the task independently but it would be helpful if you could annotate the sheet if there are any parts which they needed support with. Thank you in advance for your support.

Class 5 Half-term homework

Following on from our work on biographical writing, you will be pleased to know that you will be writing your autobiography when we come back to school; we know how keen many of you were to talk about your own life!

Use what you learnt when writing a biography, to make your writing interesting, by including memorable events, as well as including general information about your family, hobbies, pets, places you have lived, etc.  You can use the ideas below to help you make notes but you don’t need to write your autobiography in full, as we will be doing this in literacy lessons in school.

Date and place of birth

Home e.g. where you live now or have lived previously

Family

Education – you might want to include nursery or any other schools you might have attended

Pets

Hobbies/interests

Main achievements

Memorable incidents or events

Hopes and ambitions – what you would like to do in the future

Class 5 were set this homework several weeks ago but, just in case they’ve lost their sheet or forgotten what they need to do, here it is again.

Class 5 Literacy Homework for Tuesday 21st

To mark the end of our work on WarHorse, I would like Class 5 children to create a book review of the novel. They may use the format attached below, which they were all given a paper copy of on Friday, or they can create their own design.

This homework needs to be given in on Tuesday please.  They have not been given spellings to learn this week, as they also have Maths homework to complete for Mr Kelly for Wednesday.

Many thanks.

Class 5 Literacy Homework

In preparation for our next Literacy unit on poetry, Class 5’s task over the next week is to research one significant (well-known) WW1 poet. Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and Rupert Brooke are a few suggestions. Think about what you could find out about them e.g. their life, their role before/during/after (if they survived) WW1 and any poems they are famous for.

You can present your research in a format of your choice but it will be going on display so think about presentation.  We will be sharing everyone’s research in class on Monday 20th.
