Home Learning wb 20.04.2020

Hello everyone!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter.

It’s been wonderful to hear from so many of you over the last few weeks and hear about what you have been up to.

If you haven’t yet got in touch, please send us an email to class5@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk – we would love to hear from you.  If you would like to send us any of the work you have completed (i.e as a picture attachment or a document attachment) please do, we would really like to see it.

Here is your home learning for this week.

Class-5-Week-2-Learning-Project

Please remember that these are choices of activities you could do.  You don’t have to complete all of them, and we don’t expect you to be doing school work all day every day.  A few half hour slots or a morning of hard working will be plenty, though again, please don’t worry if you aren’t able to manage this.  We know lots of parents are trying to do their own jobs from home at the same time so do whatever works in your family.

Hope to hear from you soon, and please email if you have any questions.

Miss Carr

Class 5 Science homework 17.01.20

Class 5 homework Create your own planet

To build on what they have been learning about our solar system this week in Science, Class 5 have been set the above homework task. This asks them to use what they have learnt about other planets to create a new planet, which could fit into our solar system. They can use IT to create their poster/information sheet/leaflet but not PowerPoint.

If you or your child has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

New! Class 5 half-term homework

Class 5 children have been asked to complete a piece of science homework over the half-term holiday. Their task is to research Sir Isaac Newton’s work on light and colour and they can present their research in a format of their choice. We are looking forward to creating a display of what they produce!

The homework needs to be in school by Thursday 7th October and is entirely optional but house points will be awarded to any children completing the task.

Class 5 weekly update

Well done to everyone in class 5 for an amazing week!

In Maths we have been working on statistics and data. The children have shown a really high level of understanding regarding the features that must be included in a line graph. We have discussed how it shows the progress of something over time and how it is important when working with line graphs to pick out the units of measurement as well as reading and interpreting the data itself. Next week we will move from analysing line graphs to drawing them ourselves.

In English this week we have been looking at report writing. The children did some brilliant research for their homework task and this led us nicely into the topic. As we read on through our class book we looked at the features of both a scientific report and a newspaper report. The children were then able to pick which one they would prefer to focus on, thinking very carefully about the reason behind their decision. They then wrote a small proposal that detailed what direction they wanted to go in and why. We used Ipads and laptops to research the subject of their report, which was a rare butterfly that is discovered in our class book by one of the characters. The children thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of directing their own learning whilst using varied approaches and this has been reflected in their finished work. They have worked extremely hard and with great care on their final writing pieces using the features they identified in their book, along with their research and notes they have made to produce amazing reports.

The homework this week is based on creativity in their writing. The task is to write a letter that captures the first impressions and feelings of one of the characters from our class book, as he has moved back to England. They need to predict how they think it will go before we read on next week, focusing on detailed description along with all of the techniques we have been working on over the last few weeks. These are detailed on the task sheet in their homework books.

Have a great weekend everyone, see you on Monday,

Mr Sudlow.

Class 5 & 6 Homework 05.10.18

To be given in by Thursday 11th October:

Your task this week is to research Eva Ibbotson (the author of Journey to the River Sea.)

What can you find out about her e.g. what other books has she written? What awards has she won? Are there any interesting facts about her?

Challenge… If you could, what questions would you have asked her?

Class 5 and 6 postcard homework

Children have been told that they can either use the paper postcard template to handwrite their postcard or download the Word version below and type it. If you are unable to print it at home, please email it to the school office on admin@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk and Mrs Jones or Mrs Neal will print it.

Class 5 half-term homework

To be brought into School for Tuesday 5th June 2018

Your homework task for half-term is to research Sir Isaac Newton’s work on light. Newton was known for his work in several areas of science but I just want you to focus on his theories and findings about light.

You can present your information in any format of your choice e.g. written, using ICT, practical demonstration, etc.  You will be sharing your research with the rest of the class.
