URGENT SURVEY for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6

We now have more guidance about what we will be expected to do from June 1st to enable a phased return for pupils to school. We know that we have been asked to open the school for Nursery, Reception, Year one and Year 6 to begin with but these year groups will not all start together on 1st June – these children may well have to attend some days and not others to allow us to keep numbers low.
As you can imagine, we have significant work to do regarding logistics, timetabling, staffing and risk assessments. Some of these measures will include: small numbers of children in classes, staggered start and finish times, using different members of staff and classrooms to space the children out.  Children of key workers will still be cared for in school alongside these year groups.

We urgently need to know whether parents of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 intend to send their children back to school from 1st June or whether they feel it is unsafe to do so due to circumstances at home or school. Please complete the survey below to help us in our planning.

Your responses, and the guidance we are awaiting from Shropshire Council, will support us in making a firmer plan and we will share this with you as soon as we can. Thank you for your support.

Good morning Class 5!

I hope you’ve all had a super bank holiday weekend and are well-rested ready for another week of home school.

Thank you so much to everyone who has emailed this week – it’s great to keep in touch at this strange time.  I would like to create a photo gallery of things that you have been doing at home so if you’d like your photo on the website, email it to me before next Friday (15.05.20) so I can put it together.

Thank you to those of you who have managed to create your account with Reading Planet.  We have had some real problems with it this week and I’m unable to access my account at the moment so can’t assign any more books.  I know some people have had trouble accessing the books I have already assigned as well.  I have contacted Reading Planet and I am hoping this will be resolved quickly.  I will update via email when the problems have been rectified.

Free School Transport – Secondary School (Yr 6’s only)

Please find information received from the Transport team at Shropshire Council regarding the deadline for completing transport applications for secondary school in September.

Any parents/carers of year 6 pupils, who wish to apply for free school transport for their child/children from September 2020, should do so before 31st May 2020. Applications can be made online at www.shropshire.gov.uk or over the phone with the Council’s Customer Service Team by calling 0345 6789008. Alternatively, should you require a paper copy of the application form, please do not hesitate to contact the school or Passenger Transport directly via email, schooltransport@shropshire.gov.uk or over the phone on the above telephone number. It is important to explain that, if the application is not received by 31st May 2020, the Authority may be unable to provide transport for the beginning of the autumn term 2020 and parents/carers will need to make their own transport arrangements. Access to school transport is not permitted until entitlement has been confirmed.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter.

It’s been wonderful to hear from so many of you over the last few weeks and hear about what you have been up to.

If you haven’t yet got in touch, please send us an email to class5@bicton.shropshire.sch.uk – we would love to hear from you.  If you would like to send us any of the work you have completed (i.e as a picture attachment or a document attachment) please do, we would really like to see it.

Class-5-Week-2-Learning-Project

Please remember that these are choices of activities you could do.  You don’t have to complete all of them, and we don’t expect you to be doing school work all day every day.  A few half hour slots or a morning of hard working will be plenty, though again, please don’t worry if you aren’t able to manage this.  We know lots of parents are trying to do their own jobs from home at the same time so do whatever works in your family.
