English – The children have been working independently to write a story based on the Great fire of London. They used their plans from last week to write to ensure they included all their ideas. They wrote some great stories, well done Class 3!
In Read, Write, Inc blue group have been reading ‘So cool!’ and writing about a cool day. They discussed lots of ideas about their favourite days out including the beach, shopping, jump in and climbing wall. The red group have been reading ‘Barker’ and writing a newspaper report about Barker the dog, showing how Mr Black’s feelings towards him change in the story. The rest of the class have been working independently to improve their sentence work by using a range a sentence openers. They played a game to use as many different types of starters then used this to help them write a short story.
Maths – This week we have been making equal groups by sharing and grouping, then dividing by 2. The children have been using practical equipment to make groups and share out the objects equally and checking each group has the same amount. They have also been writing division and multiplication number sentences to explain what their groups/drawings show.
Science – We have been doing some investigation work this week which the children enjoyed getting involved in. They worked in groups to test how absorbent different types of paper were. They discussed how they need to ensure they carry out a fair test and what factors they were changing. Once they tested the different papers they recorded and discussed the results and explained why some were more absorbent than others.
