Children In Need – Thank you!

Thank you for such a fantastic effort with children’s costumes today and for the donations of cakes, biscuits, sweets and not forgetting donations for not wearing school uniform.  By the end of morning break we had raised over £180 and with more cakes sold after school we raised a grand total of £241.86!  Thank you again for all your support with our fundraising efforts today.

Shoe Boxes

Many thanks for the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  If you are planning on filling a shoe box, these will be collected from school on the morning of Tuesday 17th November.

Swimming Gala

You may have noticed that our area swimming gala is being held next Wednesday at Oswestry.  Originally we were intending on asking some of our Year 4 children to take part but we have such a strong group of swimmers in Year 4 that there simply aren’t enough events for them all to compete in.  Therefore only Years 5 and 6 will be competing this year but we are definitely looking forward to seeing our current Year 4 children taking part next year!

Craft Club

Just a reminder that there is a small charge of £1 a week for children attending Craft Club on Wednesdays.

Arthog

We need to give Arthog the final numbers by Tuesday so please could you return the letter and deposit by Tuesday morning.  If you have any questions, about the visit prior to booking your child’s place, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs Jones.

Year 5 Brass Forms

If you would like your Year 5 child to take their brass instrument home to practise, please could you return the form to confirm that you have home insurance in place to cover the instrument. Thank you in advance.

Today in Class 3 we had a visitor – ‘Mountaineering Moss’ a real life explorer! She came and showed us lots of equipment a modern day explorer would use and she taught us how to read a map. We then had to use our skills we had learnt to find some clues around the school. We also learnt about the different places where people can go and explore.

Class 4 Homework

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly, thank you for the effort that was put into the holiday homework. There is a vast range of non-chronological reports that we have decided to display in the corridor. Please feel free to come and have a look.

Children have taken home Topic homework tonight to be brought back to school by next Wednesday. They have been given some information to read about Stone Age homes. They must draw each type of home and label the materials used to construct it.

We have also planned a Stone Age Day for Wednesday 2nd December. Please can children wear their Stone Age costumes on that day. We will be doing lots of different activities related to our topic.

If you have any questions, please speak to either teacher.

Many thanks,

Mrs Chadwick and Mrs Foster

Class 3 Homework – due Friday 13th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week in maths we have moved onto multiplication and we will be focusing on this (as well as division) for the next few weeks. I would really appreciate it if you could help your child to learn their times tables as much as possible. These are the requirements set out by the National Curriculum for each year group (this is the expectation by the end of the year so please don’t panic)!

Year 2: Need to know and recall facts from their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Year 3: As for Year 2 and to know and recall facts from their 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

I would suggest that you begin by counting up in the number of the table you are focusing on, then move on to recall the x facts in order, then to recalling them out of order and finally to recall the related division facts as well.

It is important for children to know and recall their multiplication facts as this will help them in many other areas of maths. However, we do also place a big emphasis on the depth of the children’s understanding and ensuring they understand what they are doing when they multiply a number and can explain it verbally and in pictures and arrays.

With this in mind, your child has brought home a piece of multiplication homework this week. It will either be a selection of multiplication questions or worded problems. Whichever activity they have brought home it is important that they can explain how they have done it and how they know their answers are right. This can be done through them using equipment, drawing pictures/arrays as well as verbally explaining their work.

If you have any questions about this homework or their maths work in general then please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Many Thanks,

Miss Barratt

Silly Sentences

In our English lesson today we played a game called ‘Silly Sentence’. It is a game where children are practising their knowledge of the different types of words.

The children enjoyed it so much that I have sent home a copy for them to be able to play it at home. It’s not official homework as such, it is more of a practice activity that you can play as and when you have time. I have sent home the instructions for the game as well – it does say to be played in a group of 4 but it can be played individually, in pairs etc.

Enjoy!

Class 2 PE changes

Just a note to say that Class 2 will now have PE on Mondays and Fridays. Friday mornings will now be Tennis taught by Mr Crefield. Please ensure all children have their full PE kits in every week with outdoor footwear.

Thank you

Miss Edwards

Sorting socks!

Children in Year 1 have been very busy in Maths today, they had to sort all of Mrs Bowes’ sock out!  They had to count out the socks and work out if there was an odd or even amount, and then put them into pairs and count them out in 2’s.

LO: To find odd and even numbers
