Class 2 Weekly Update 07.09.18

Welcome back everybody! It has been lovely to meet most of you at the door in the morning. I hope that your children have been looking forward to coming to school in the morning as much as I have.
We have had a wonderful week together settling in. We have been getting used to the new routine and have shown that we are all more than ready to enter KS1.
If you have not received our curriculum newsletter, here it is below.

If you need me for anything, please call in any time for a chat.

Welcome back – weekly news 07.09.18

Welcome back!

We would like to say a warm welcome to all of our new children and staff and we are sure that they are going to be very happy in our School and Nursery.  All the staff have been amazed at how well the children have settled into their new classes this week and it is lovely to have the building full again of smiles, laughter and happy faces!

I would also like to thank all staff for their hard work this week helping the children to settle in and welcome several new staff: Mrs Whitfield in Class 1, Miss France and Mr Andrews in Class 4, and Mr Sudlow and Mrs Allen in Class 5.  If you haven’t already done so, please pop into your child’s class and say hello to them!

After-school Clubs

We are currently reviewing some of our after-school clubs as some have very low attendance and it is not viable for them to continue.  There is after-school provision on every day for all classes at the moment but it may not specifically state on the website the name of the club running on a particular day.  Please speak to me if you have any questions.

Upcoming trips this term

The whole school (not Nursery) will be visiting Chester Zoo on Thursday 8th November and the pantomime at Theatre Severn on Thursday 6th December – details to follow.

The Priory School Open Day/Evening – Year 6s

Please see a letter below from The Priory School regarding their open mornings/evening this term.  If you wish to take your child to one of the open mornings, please inform the school office so we know that your child will be absent from school. Thank you.

Class 3 weekly update

Welcome back! Class 3 have had a great start to the new term and have all settled in well.

English – We have been focusing on using the correct punctuation in sentences – capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and apostrophes.  They have also been introduced to their novel study “A balloon for Grandad”.

Maths – We have started a new unit on ‘Place value’.  This week the children have been working on counting objects to 100, representing numbers to 100 and using tens and ones in a part whole model.

The children have also enjoyed sharing their ‘Holiday memories’ and talking about what they have done over the summer holidays which has been lovely.

Spellings  – to be tested on Friday 14th September.

7.9.18

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Thomas

1st week at School

The children in Class 1 have had a super start to their first week at school.  They have been very busy in the class room and outside area.  They have all done really well and we are really proud of the class.

This week we have looked at the letter sounds ‘m’ and ‘a’.  The children have also practised how to form these letters:

m – Maisie Mountain, mountain

a- around the apple and down the leaf

In Maths we have looked at number 1 and the concept of ‘oneness; – one is a single unit and it doesn’t matter about the size of what is been counted e.g. one elephant, one ant. The children then explored what happens when there is another 1 and  how they come together to make 2 and how 2 can be separated into 1 and another 1.

The children did really well changing into their PE kits and taking part in their first dance lesson with Mr Sudlow.  This term they will be basing their dance moves on music from the Jungle book.

All children have now been allocated a reading book and they have all chosen a library book to share with you at home.

Gardening Day 15.09.18

Can you spare a few hours on Saturday 15th September? If so, we would love you to join us at our first  gardening party of this school year.

We are planning on having a general tidy-up in the wildlife garden, flower beds and Early Years raised beds, as well as moving some of the less hardy plants into the polytunnel for the winter.  Weather-permitting, we are also hoping to finish a few painting jobs around school.

If you are able to spare a couple of hours from 10:00 onwards, please leave your name at the school office or speak to myself or Barbie Davies who has kindly offered to organise refreshments throughout the day.

Thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to seeing you.

Class 5 and 6 News

The children have had a great first day back and seem to have enjoyed being in their new classes!  Just in case they forgot to bring their curriculum newsletter home, we have attached a copy below.
