8 years ago Posted on 21st Sep 2018 by Admin Maths This week we have continued to explore the threeness of 3. The children have compared 1,2 and 3. Matched amounts to the correct numeral, used comparative language to compare e.g. – ‘bigger than’, and ‘biggest’, ‘smaller’ etc. We have encouraged the children to use language – ‘two is bigger than one’, ‘three is the biggest’, ‘one is first’. ‘two is second’, ‘three is third’. The children have found different ways to make 3 and prove it is three, they have used language such as ‘I know it is 3 because there are 2 on top and another one underneath, 2 and 1 is 3.’ We have explored how it doesn’t matter if we move the objects around there still will be 3.

When we write ‘i’ we say down the insects body and a dot for his head. Here is a revision sheet – i The children have enjoyed finding the sounds hidden around the classroom and having a go at writing them. 8 years ago Posted on 15th Sep 2018 by Admin Class 5 weekly update This week class 5 have worked extremely hard and everyone has continued to settle in well. English This week we have been looking at journal entries. We have read chapter two of our class novel ‘Journey to the River Sea’ and the children have enjoyed this immensely. We have looked at the key features of a journal entry before recording the important events that occurred during the main character’s voyage over to Brazil. The children have then written their own journal entries from the perspective of the main character using their notes to guide them and this writing task has enthused everyone resulting in high quality work. Next week we will be continuing to read through the book with our focus moving to diary entries. Maths This week we have completed our first arithmetic test of the term and we have gone through the paper as a class focusing on the different areas that the children identified as wanting some extra help. We then moved onto rounding which the children have worked extremely hard at and over the course of the week everyone has made really good progress. Next week we are moving onto looking at numbers up to 100,000. The homework for this week is Maths and it is just some extra practice rounding numbers to either the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. The homework is due in on Wednesday. Our PE session will be back to Tuesday afternoon next week so if the children could have their kit in school that would be fantastic. Mr Sudlow.
8 years ago Posted on 14th Sep 2018 by Admin Class 2 Weekly Update 14.09.18 Upon entering school, Class 2 had a very exciting surprise when they discovered that something had left footprints both inside and outside of their classroom. After registration they heard a knock at their door….only to find a suitcase outside. The children then worked together to make sense of what it was doing there and who or what it belonged to. Another knock at the door revealed all. It was a lost penguin! The penguin shared its story ‘Lost and Found’ which prompted the children to ask questions concerning its journey and where it had come from and how it got lost. This sparked the children into action where they created ‘FOUND’ posters to alert anybody looking for Penguin. The children recorded their questions concerning the penguins’ journey, homeland and feelings. They also planned and wrote about what they would have in their own suitcase if they were to take Penguin back to the South Pole. Penguin was then taken to our Class 2 airport where it had its destination found on a map, luggage weighed and in-flight meal of ‘fishy meat’ and a drink of ‘ice buy lorazepam uk water’ submitted on a form. Penguin was then seen off at terminal 2 for its flight back to the South Pole. At the end of the week we went penguin crazy writing down facts we learnt about our new favourite bird from Antarctica. In maths the children have focused on place value and have really enjoyed all of the practical activities they have done. They have been learning about number sequences both using counting forwards and backwards verbally and with objects and have identified resources in class which can help them check their work in the future. They have been counting 1 more and 1 less than numbers from 0-20 and beyond and have compared groups of objects in various scenarios. Their group and individual work has been superb as a collective. In other news, Class 2 now have another PE slot. So our days for PE will now be on a Monday & Thursday. Please make sure that your child has their kit in school on those days. 8 years ago Posted on 14th Sep 2018 by Admin Week 2 The children in Class One have had another super week. They have shared their favourite nursery rhymes and enjoyed singing them as a class. We have had fun listening for and spotting the rhyming words, then thinking of new rhyming words. We focussed on Humpty Dumpty and had fun cutting out his pieces to try and put him back together again! On Thursday we had a practice fire drill, Class One children did a great job of calmly leaving the classroom and lining up on the playground. They spent the rest of the day pretending to be Fire Fighters, putting out fires and rescuing kittens! At the beginning of the week the children were busy finding one and then two things. We remembered that 1 add another makes 2, and 2 take away 1 leaves 1. Making 3 – the children exlored how 2 things add 1 more makes 3, and 1 thing add 2 more makes 3. They made use of the items in the classroom to prove it. This week we have looked at the phonemes ‘s’ and ‘d’. When we write the sounds the children say: ‘s’ – slither down the snake ‘d’ – around the dinosaurs bottom, up his tall neck and down to his feet. The children are making good use of the class room resources to enhance their learning through play.
8 years ago Posted on 14th Sep 2018 by Admin Class 6 update 14.09.18 Year 5/6 English This week the children have been writing a ship’s journal based on Maia’s journey to the Amazon in ‘Journey to the River Sea.’ We focused on making our writing quite formal as a record of the journey. Maths We have worked on negative numbers this week and then focused on addition and subtraction using the column method. Some children were working with numbers up to 6 digits to solve some tricky problems. Year 5/6 Geography We revised the water cycle this week and made sure we understood the terms ‘evaporation’, ‘condensation’ and ‘precipitation.’ The children watched video animations of the water cycle and looked at one we made in class using a bowl of hot water. They then drew their own water cycles labelling the features they had learnt about. Year 5/6 Science The children enjoyed sharing their homework on plastic and we discussed how plastic pollution is affecting ocean wildlife. We shared our views on plans to use a giant floating barrier to collect plastic and how it could actually be detrimental to animals that are surface feeders. Children then used their existing knowledge of properties of different materials to plan how they are going to test these known properties in the next lesson. Have a good weekend.
