A Wonderful Day at the Field Studies Council

Willow Class had a fabulous day at the Field Studies Council in Preston Montford, joining Katy the caterpillar to learn about life cycles, camouflage and habitats. We explored the woodland, meadow and pond, tackling the fun challenges Katy left for us. The children used simple equipment to observe and identify lots of different bugs and creatures and how they are adapted to their habitat.

Exploring watercolour!

Willow Class have enjoyed experimenting with watercolour in their art lessons. They explored how the paint moves and creates different effects when they let it lead the way. The children practised techniques such as ‘wet-on-wet’ and creating a ‘splatter’ effect. They also looked at the work of artists Emma Burleigh and Paul Klee  before having a go at trying some of their ideas in their own artwork.

Willow class gymnastics

Willow class have been enjoying the gymnastics unit this half term in PE. This week, they used the wall mounted climbing frame to practise their climbing and balancing skills.

Ready, Steady, Prep!

Willow Class have been busy practising their food preparation skills in this week’s Design and Technology lesson. The children carefully used forks to steady their food, practised cutting soft items with table knives and had a go at  juicing fruit. They followed instructions really well and are growing in growing confidence. They will use these skills later on in the term, when they make a healthy smoothie!

Stay, Read & Play

We were delighted to welcome so many parents and carers into Willow Class for our first Stay, Read and Play session. Families enjoyed sharing favourite stories together before spending time playing and exploring in the classroom. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading and learning together. We really enjoyed having parents join us!

Fun in the snow!

Willow class were delighted to return to a snow-covered playground on their first day back at school. They enjoyed playing in the snow, building snowmen and making snowballs. It was a memorable start to the new term.

Year 1’s fieldwork

Year 1 have been busy geographers, investigating the question: ‘What is the most common house type on Bicton Lane?’ To find out, they headed outdoors for some hands-on fieldwork! Armed with an ipad  and tally charts, the children took photos of different houses, counted each type and recorded their findings.

A King is born Nativity

This year Reception and KS1 performed the Nativity play “A King is born”.  The children worked really hard preparing and on the day they sang the songs beautifully and brought their characters to life brilliantly.

We hope you all enjoyed watching it!

Forest School Art

Over the last two weeks in Forest School, Willow class have been exploring the art of the renowned artist and  sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy. They used a range of natural objects to create their own artwork inspired by photos of Goldsworthy’s work.
