Friends of Bicton School (FOBs) News!

Hi. It’s Laura from Friends of Bicton School and I am the acting chair. FOBS is a charity that hopes to run events for the children to have fun and try and fundraise for the school.
At our meeting this week, we had quite a few people offering to help FOBS going forward which is great, but any more help would also be appreciated.  We are looking for people for a variety of roles varying from helping out at events, serving tea/coffee at other events or even just donating small items such as cake or tidying up. Please let us know if you are interested.
There is a Facebook group for the school (it is a private group), managed by FOBS, which you can join if you wish. The group is called Friends of Bicton School and Nursery. We will use this to continue to update with our plans and share news relating to the school. We also aim to continue to use the school newsletter for updates.
You are warmly invited to our AGM on Thursday 18th November at 7.30pm at school to discuss events and finalise roles on the committee.

Book alert – please read

9th October 2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been made aware that several titles in the Spy DogsSpy Pup, and Spy Cat series by Andrew Cope contain a weblink at the back of the book that no longer directs people to information about the books. Instead, the link has been compromised and now leads to inappropriate and unsafe material, containing pornographic content with no age restrictions.

We have removed copies of the book from our school library and classroom book corners.

Below are images of some of the front covers in the series to help you identify the books should you have any at home. We advise you remove them immediately. Should any be the property of the school, please return them and we will dispose of them accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Mavin

Hello Yellow

Dear parents and carers,
Our school will be taking part in Hello Yellow on Friday 10th October (World

Mental Health Day) to raise awareness and funds for YoungMinds, the UK’s
leading charity for young people’s mental health.
No young person should feel alone with their mental health and that’s why
Hello Yellow matters. We’re taking this opportunity as a school community to
come together and show our students that we’re with them and they’re never
alone with their mental health.
We’ll be taking part by wearing yellow on Friday 10th October.
You can also donate to support our school’s fundraising by following this link: https://fundraise.youngminds.org.uk/s/6058/6060.
Most importantly, we want to share the resources which YoungMinds offer to
support parents and carers if you ever need help and advice to support your
children. This includes:
• online resources (www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/)
• a phone line, open 9.30am-4pm (0808 802 5544)
• an online chat for parents and carers to speak to trained
professionals if you’re concerned about your children’s mental
health (www.youngminds.org.uk/parents-helpline/)
