Christmas Lunch

We know it may seem a long way off yet but the school kitchen have asked if you could let them know if your child would like the Christmas lunch on Wednesday 16th December.  We will put class lists up next week for you or your child to tick their name if they think they would like a lunch on that day.

Cold weather

As the weather looks as though it may be turning colder next week, please could we remind children to bring a coat to school.

Children In Need – Thank you!

Thank you for such a fantastic effort with children’s costumes today and for the donations of cakes, biscuits, sweets and not forgetting donations for not wearing school uniform.  By the end of morning break we had raised over £180 and with more cakes sold after school we raised a grand total of £241.86!  Thank you again for all your support with our fundraising efforts today.

Shoe Boxes

Many thanks for the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  If you are planning on filling a shoe box, these will be collected from school on the morning of Tuesday 17th November.

Swimming Gala

You may have noticed that our area swimming gala is being held next Wednesday at Oswestry.  Originally we were intending on asking some of our Year 4 children to take part but we have such a strong group of swimmers in Year 4 that there simply aren’t enough events for them all to compete in.  Therefore only Years 5 and 6 will be competing this year but we are definitely looking forward to seeing our current Year 4 children taking part next year!

Craft Club

Just a reminder that there is a small charge of £1 a week for children attending Craft Club on Wednesdays.

Arthog

We need to give Arthog the final numbers by Tuesday so please could you return the letter and deposit by Tuesday morning.  If you have any questions, about the visit prior to booking your child’s place, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs Jones.

Year 5 Brass Forms

If you would like your Year 5 child to take their brass instrument home to practise, please could you return the form to confirm that you have home insurance in place to cover the instrument. Thank you in advance.

Children In Need

pudsey

On Friday 13th November it is Children In Need Day.  Children may come to school dressed as a ‘hero’ of their choice in return for a 50p donation towards the charity.  We will also be holding a cake sale at break-time and would be grateful for any donations of cakes or biscuits; children will also need to bring a bit of money to buy a cake or biscuit.

Arthog – Year 5/6 Visit

If you would like your child to attend next year’s visit to Arthog, please could you return the slip with a £30 deposit by Friday 13th November.

Reporting Absence

Please remember that you must phone school if your child is absent.  If the school office do not hear by 9:30 they will have to contact you.

Flu Vaccination

Please remember it is the flu vaccination on Wednesday 11th for those children involved.

Weekly News – October Half Term

Celebration Assembly

Well done to all the children for their fantastic performances in last Friday’s Celebration Assembly. All the staff were very proud of their children and how hard they have worked over the last half term. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and share in the children’s successes.

Clubs

Please keep an eye on the website as some of the clubs have now changed. The only club now running on Tuesday is Film Club. Craft Club on Wednesday is now for KS2 but we are running a new club in its place for younger children; Colouring Club will take place in Class 2 on Wednesdays for Reception/Year1/Year 2. We will continue to run KS2 Football Club for as long as the darker nights allow. Please note there is no Football Club on Wednesday 11th (as there is an U9s match – details to follow) but this may still show on the calendar until it has been updated.

Roadworks

Some families will already be aware that there are roadworks on Bicton Lane past the Church. This is not affecting access to the school entrance from Holyhead Road at present.

Safer School Parent/Guardian Survey

Many thanks for the surveys that were returned last Friday. We really appreciate your views and comments so if you could return your survey by Thursday 5th at the latest we would be very grateful.

Operation Christmas Child- Shoeboxes

We are taking part in the Shoebox Appeal this year and children will be bringing home a leaflet the first day back. This is completely voluntary but in previous years we have always found that the children are keen to take part. Filled shoeboxes can be left at the main office and need to be returned to school by Monday 16th November. Thank you in advance for your support.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday.

School Car Park

Please could we politely request that people show due care to other car park users when using the school car park. On Friday afternoon a parents’ car was hit by another car causing several hundred pounds worth of damage.  If the school car park is busy, there is always ample room at the village hall.

Thank you.

Parents’ Evenings

On behalf of all the staff, thank you for your support and comments at Parents’ Evenings this week.  If you were unable to meet with you child’s/children’s teacher/teachers, you are welcome to make an appointment to see them if you have not already done so.

Great Shrewsbury Run

Our grand total raised as a result of last Friday’s run/walk is an incredible £932.60! This is an amazing achievement and we would like to thank the children for their efforts and everyone who sponsored them. If you do still have any sponsor money to send in, please could you do so by Monday 19th at the very latest.

Harvest Celebration Assembly

Next Friday is our Harvest Celebration Assembly and we are looking forward to seeing each class ‘perform’ in front of parents, grandparents and family members. We aim to start at 9:25 and ask you not to park on Bicton Lane, once the school car park is full, but to use the car park at the village hall instead. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Harvest Donations

If you are able to donate any produce, tinned goods, biscuits etc. for our Harvest Assembly, we would be very grateful.  Items can be left at the school office and will be delivered to St Winefrides soup kitchen next weekend.  Many thanks.
