Lost uniform

Please could you check that your child has not come home in any items of clothing which belong to another child, as we have a couple of children who have mislaid sweatshirts/cardigans in the last week (both of which are labelled with their names.)  If you could also check that your child’s uniform is labelled at the same time, we would be very grateful.

Many thanks for your support.

Parents’ Evenings – No Clubs

Just a reminder that there are no clubs after school on Tuesday or Thursday next week because of parents’ evenings.

Head lice

We have had several reports of head lice in school this week.  Please could you check your child’s hair this weekend and treat as necessary.  It would also be helpful if long hair could be tied up/plaited etc and please encourage your child not to take their hair down during the day and keep their hair up. I have spoken to several parents this week who are understandably frustrated at having to repeatedly treat their child’s hair because they come home from school with head lice yet again.  Your support with this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Comic Relief Day

Next Friday 24th March is Comic Relief Day.  Children are invited to come to school wearing something red and pay 50p towards the Comic Relief charity.  We will also be holding a cake sale at break time so any donations or cakes/biscuits would be very welcome. Thank you in advance for your support.

Condover Final Payment

Just a reminder that the final payment for Condover of £35 must be received by Friday 24th March.

Letters out this week

Dodgeball letter – Year 5 children involved

Condover key info and kit list – Year 3/4

Headlice letter – whole school

Have a nice weekend.

Mini Marathon – Latest News From Nikki!

DESIGN AN OUTFIT COMPETITION
Thank you to all the children and their parents who have taken the time to create an outfit for me. The thought and effort that has been put into them all is wonderful. Choosing a winner is not going to be easy!
The winner will be announced in the celebration assembly on March 31st.
This is also the day of the Mini Marathon.

MINI MARATHON!!
I will be at the school all day to support the children in their efforts. I am training hard every week and have just completed 18 miles. Are any of the children in training?
It may help them to get further on the day!
Every child will take part in doing laps of the field. It doesn’t matter how many they do or how fast they do it. We will count the laps completed throughout the day and see how many Marathons the children can cover between them all!
It’s all about having fun whilst being active and hopefully raising some money for the school through being sponsored by family, friends and neighbours for their efforts.
I have also been busy fundraising; my raffle raised just over £400 and with my family and friends’ donations on top of that,I have raised a total of almost £900 which is brilliant! I would love to get more for the school so I will keep fundraising.
Remember, all the money that I raise and your children raise at the Mini Marathon goes to the school, which will benefit the current and future children of Bicton School.
To thank the children for the efforts on the day and their fundraising, they will all be rewarded with a medal when they have finished their laps of the field just like a real marathon runner!
PLEASE CAN ALL CHILDREN BRING THEIR  SPONSOR FORMS BACK TO SCHOOL FOR THE EVENT (March 31st)
They will be returned to them by the end of the day if necessary, for them to collect any remaining sponsorship (all to be handed in by the 7th April).

Thank you so much in advance for your support with this exciting event.

Class 5 Weekly Update 10.03.17

English: We have continued reading our class novel Trash and children have completed several different activities this week including a reading comprehension based on the text.

Maths: Children have used formulae to find the area of triangles and rectangles and have applied this to finding the area of their own compound shapes. Towards the end of the week, we extended this to finding the volume of 3D shapes. Today we started to work through an assessment task completed earlier this week and we discussed how it is important to use an appropriate method/show appropriate workings.

Year 6s should be really proud of their hard work this week in Maths and their willingness to share and discuss their errors with their peers; we were able to talk through common mistakes and misconceptions and children were happy to share mistakes they had made so that everyone could learn from them. Well done Class 5!

History: Children have researched Winston Churchill and created fact files with a partner. Thank you to everyone who has been able to bring in some quite incredible WWII artefacts which children used to create a WWII museum. This work will be continued next week. Our governors had the opportunity to look at some of these artefacts prior to/after our Governing Body meeting this week and they were very impressed at the response to the topic from children and parents.

Well done to all Year 6s for the effort they put into their Blitz homework – it is lovely to see the children enjoying the WWII topic so much!

R.E.: This week, children have created some beautiful writing in R.E. based on our unit of work on Heaven – Our Special Place. We are looking forward to being able to display some of this work in school.

P.E.: Children continued their dodgeball sessions with Mr Bebb today.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Parents’ Evenings – Cancelled Clubs

Just a reminder that the booking system is open on the website for our forthcoming Parents’ Evenings.  Thank you if you have already booked an appointment to speak to your child’s class teacher(s).  There will be no Film Club on Tuesday 21st or any clubs on Thursday 23rd.

Condover

The final Condover payment is due on Friday 24th March please.  We are in the processing of putting together an overview of the information shared/questions asked at yesterday’s parents’ meeting about Condover and we will send this home early next week together with the kit list.

Diary Dates

As you are hopefully aware, we have a very busy day on Friday 31st March and after Celebration Assembly every class will be taking part in the Mini Marathon on the school site.  Some children have already told us that they have quite a bit of sponsorship, which is fantastic news, and all monies raised will be spent on resources/equipment for the children.

The following day, on Saturday 1st April, we are organising a gardening day at school to really get things moving with the wildlife area (to the rear of the new eco-room.)  If you are able to spare a few hours on that Saturday, you will be warmly welcomed and refreshments will be provided by FOBs.  Details will follow in the next couple of weeks giving you an idea of the jobs that need doing so if you could save the date we would love to see you!

Hope you have a lovely weekend.
