Punctuality

We have noticed a sharp rise in the number of children arriving at school late and after registration has been completed.  The bell rings at 8:55 and any children arriving after 9:00 will be marked as being late. Thank you in advance for your support in getting your child to school  on time.

Website Password

We have been amazed at the fantastic response to the website password competition. The winner will be chosen and announced next week.

Class 2 Weekly Update

English – In English this week we have been focusing on the sounds s, d, igh and ow. We have continued to learn about the importance of capital letters and full stops in sentences and the children finished the week having a go at writing independently after watching a short video called ‘bubbles’.

Maths – We have continued place value and number recognition this week. The children have represented numbers in a range of different ways and had a go at their first arithmetic test. I was very impressed!

Science – The children made posters about different weathers in Science. They were put into partners and worked together to discuss the clothes they’d wear, activities they would do depending on the weather and how it would make them feel.

History – In History, we shared our findings from talking to older people at home and lots of children enjoyed talking about what they had found out. We then looked at lots of old toys and picked our favourite ones to draw and write descriptive sentences.

Art – Today we enjoyed looking at the artist Piet Mondrian. We then re created a piece of his art and made our own collages using the primary colours red, yellow and blue.

Spellings – Well done to all of the children for completing their first spelling test today and thank you for supporting the children with learning these. You can see their test in the back of their spelling book. New spellings to learn for next Friday are stuck in at the front of their books.

Homework – The children have been given a piece of homework today on capital letters to link to our work in class. If they could complete and return this by Friday 22nd September please. On the back of their sheet is an additional piece on full stops. Please start with the capital letters and if you feel your child needs an additional challenge they can complete the work on full stops. Please feel free to write notes on the homework to allow me to see how much support your child needed in completing this.

Weekly News 08.09.17

We have had a lovely first week back and the staff have been amazed at how quickly the children have settled into their classes.

Pupil Premium Funding

If you are in receipt of certain benefits or if your joint family income is below a certain amount, your child may be entitled to free school meals. Registering for free school meals could raise additional funds for school to fund valuable support such as extended school provision or help with paying for trips.  Children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 are also eligible as this is different funding to the government’s universal infant free school meals.  Please ask at the School Office for an application form or if you have any questions.

Website password

It is time to change our website password and children have been given a competition entry form to enter their suggestion for a new password.

Clubs

Please remember to check the website for the clubs that are running this half term. Football club is only running for Class 3 this half term but we hope to arrange sessions for children in Classes 4 and 5 in preparation for forthcoming tournaments that we have entered. Football club for younger children in Classes 1 and 2 may run later in the spring term.

Fish and Chip Lunch – Colouring Competition

The School kitchen is running a colouring competition to coincide with their Great British Fish and Chip Lunch on Thursday 28th September.  Entries should be returned by Friday 22nd September marked clearly with your child’s name and class.

Music tuition

Music lessons for children who have private tuition in school will resume next week. Keyboard is now on Monday and Wednesday and drums is on Thursday – please can children remember to bring their music books to school.

Purple Mash Online Learning

Children have been given their new log-in details today for Purple Mash, together with a parent information leaflet for children who have just joined the school. If you have any questions about Purple Mash or Mini Mash, please speak to your child’s class teacher(s).

Pantomime Visit

Just to let you know that we have booked tickets for the whole school to see the pantomime in December at Theatre Severn. Details of dates and costs will follow in a letter in the next couple of weeks. Please speak to the School Office if you have any questions in the meantime.

Parking

Please could we remind all parents and adults using the school car park that parking is not permitted in the bus lane at any time.  If the school car park is full at the start or end of the day, please use the village hall car park.

We thank you in advance for your support with this.

Medication in School

Please could any inhalers and other medication that your child may need during the school day be brought into school as soon as possible. If your child left their medication in school over the summer holidays, please could you check that this is still in date and if not arrange for a replacement to be brought into school.

All medication will need a new consent form completing including asthma care plans. This paperwork was given to your child on the last day of term.

Thank you in advance for your support.
