Class 5 weekly update

This week class 5 have worked extremely hard and everyone has continued to settle in well.

English

This week we have been looking at journal entries. We have read chapter two of our class novel ‘Journey to the River Sea’ and the children have enjoyed this immensely. We have looked at the key features of a journal entry before recording the important events that occurred during the main character’s voyage over to Brazil. The children have then written their own journal entries from the perspective of the main character using their notes to guide them and this writing task has enthused everyone resulting in high quality work. Next week we will be continuing to read through the book with our focus moving to diary entries.

Maths

This week we have completed our first arithmetic test of the term and we have gone through the paper as a class focusing on the different areas that the children identified as wanting some extra help. We then moved onto rounding which the children have worked extremely hard at and over the course of the week everyone has made really good progress. Next week we are moving onto looking at numbers up to 100,000.

The homework for this week is Maths and it is just some extra practice rounding numbers to either the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. The homework is due in on Wednesday.

Our PE session will be back to Tuesday afternoon next week so if the children could have their kit in school that would be fantastic.

Mr Sudlow.

Class 5 weekly update

Welcome back everyone! We’ve had a brilliant first week in class 5 and everybody has settled in really well.

English

This week we have read the first chapter of our class novel ‘Journey to the River Sea’ and the children buy roaccutane have been very interested in the setting of the book asking lots of questions about the rainforest which we have researched together as a class. We have looked at creating a character description for the protagonist of our novel Maia and the children have worked really hard to pick out key points about her that they can back up using evidence from the text. Next week we will be looking at creating a journal from Maia’s point of view that documents her journey over to the city of Manaus in Brazil.

Maths

The children have worked really hard in Maths this week as we covered place value working with numbers up to 10,000 and Roman numerals. They have worked well in small groups to problem solve and have also shown a great level of understanding as they have been able to explain the reasoning for the answers they have come up with. Next week we will start to look at rounding numbers.

Our PE session next week has been moved to Monday afternoon as a one off so if the children could have their PE kit in school that would be fantastic. I will be available before and after school next week so please don’t hesitate to pop in and see me should you need to.

Look forward to seeing you all Monday,

Mr Sudlow.

Welcome back – weekly news 07.09.18

Welcome back!

We would like to say a warm welcome to all of our new children and staff and we are sure that they are going to be very happy in our School and Nursery.  All the staff have been amazed at how well the children have settled into their new classes this week and it is lovely to have the building full again of smiles, laughter and happy faces!

I would also like to thank all staff for their hard work this week helping the children to settle in and welcome several new staff: Mrs Whitfield in Class 1, Miss France and Mr Andrews in Class 4, and Mr Sudlow and Mrs Allen in Class 5.  If you haven’t already done so, please pop into your child’s class and say hello to them!

After-school Clubs

We are currently reviewing some of our after-school clubs as some have very low attendance and it is not viable for them to continue.  There is after-school provision on every day for all classes at the moment but it may not specifically state on the website the name of the club running on a particular day.  Please speak to me if you have any questions.

Upcoming trips this term

The whole school (not Nursery) will be visiting Chester Zoo on Thursday 8th November and the pantomime at Theatre Severn on Thursday 6th December – details to follow.

The Priory School Open Day/Evening – Year 6s

Please see a letter below from The Priory School regarding their open mornings/evening this term.  If you wish to take your child to one of the open mornings, please inform the school office so we know that your child will be absent from school. Thank you.
