Class 6 update

English

This week the children have completed their research and report writing on therapy dogs.  They worked hard to organise their writing using subheadings and a range of punctuation.  We will be focussing on spelling, punctuation and grammar work from now on until SATs.

Maths

We have begun work this week on finding the area and perimeter of shapes.  The children have looked at counting the area covered and also using formula to calculate the area of rectangles and triangles.

Art

The children have begun work this week on designs for Book Quest’s 21st anniversary.  Our children are working on the book ‘Guess How Much I Love You’ and have been creating their own designs on balloon templates.  Parts from all of the children’s designs will make up part of a larger balloon which will be displayed in Shrewsbury.

Class 3 weekly update

English – At the start of the week the children edited and improved a set of instructions about how to make a pizza.  They were asked to include the following features: time conjunctions (e.g. Firstly…), adverbs (e.g. carefully) and check for spelling and punctuation errors.

In read, write, inc the blue group have been reading ‘Jay’s clay pot’ and writing a short explanation text about how to make a clay pot.  The red group have been reading ‘The poor goose’ and writing about winning a race from one of the other character’s point of view.  The rest of the class have been focusing on using contractions – e.g. wouldn’t, shouldn’t, can’t, don’t….They have been matching words with their contraction form and using these words in their own sentences.

Maths – In maths we have started to look at fractions.  The children started by finding two equal parts of shapes and a group of objects, then they were asked if they could find more than one way of making equal groups (e.g. using 12 bears they found 2 groups of 6, 3 groups of 4, 4 groups of 3 and so on).  They demonstrated good use of number/multiplication knowledge to help them find groups of equal numbers.  They were then introduced to the fraction ‘half’ (1/2) and found half of a range of shapes and group of objects and explain how they knew this.

Science – This week the children worked in groups to find out ‘Which fabric was the stretchiest?’  They tested a range of fabrics and discussed how they would ensure their experiment would he kept a fair test (e.g. all fabric to measure the same length, stretch from the same point – 0cm).  They then stretched each fabric to see which one stretched the most and compared them at the end of the lesson.

Spellings – To be tested on Friday 12th April.   05.04.19

Please write at least three sentences into spellings books using the focus for this week.

Well done Class 3 for a fantastic performance in the celebration assembly this morning!  They all enjoyed performing the song and we hope you enjoyed watching it too.  Thank you for all your help with providing costumes for them – they all looked amazing!

Have a lovely weekend.

Fundraising Auction

If you haven’t already bought your tickets for Friday evening’s auction, why not pop along to the office and buy a couple for only £10 each. As well as the delicious food on offer and the great entertainment, we have some amazing lots to bid on, including our star lot of a week’s stay in a villa in Turkey!

Celebration Assembly

Just a reminder that it is our Easter Celebration Assembly this Friday starting at 9:25Please can we ask that adults park at the Village Hall once the school car park is full. Thank you.

Garden Day

FOBS have organised another Garden Day this Sunday 7th April from 10:00 until 4:00. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day and we would love to see family and friends from the Nursery or School community.

We would really welcome any donations of plants or even seeds (runner bean seeds, Californian poppy seeds,  or seed potatoes.) Our next project is to build an irrigation system for the poly tunnel.

This Sunday we are making the Sensory Geo Trail, so if you have any rocks, pebbles, fossils, old crocks / broken pottery / old clay pipes or even painted pebbles, to add to our Bicton Rocks collection, we would be very grateful.

Thank you

Romany Wood Choir Performance

I would like to say a huge well done to all of the children who performed at Theatre Severn on Monday evening, as part of the Romany Wood production. It was a wonderful evening and the chidlren should all feel immensely proud of their performance.

Thank you to Miss France for the time and effort she put in to prepare the children so well.

Shropshire Council Public Transport Consultation

We have been asked by Shropshire Council to share the information below with parents.

The Council’s financial strategy for 2019/20 includes a budget reduction of £405,000 in public transport and £50,000 for Shrewsbury Park & Ride.

To achieve these reductions a number of initiatives will have to be implemented and the attached consultation asks for views about these proposed changes.

We very much look forward to hearing from parents regarding this consultation & would encourage responses to be sent to the following E-mail address by 6 May 2019: passtrans@shropshire.gov.uk

Please click below to see the proposed changes.
