FOBs News!

Hello from FOBS,
We had a great time at the Christmas fayre in the village and raised £52.50p towards our goal. Thank you for all those who visited us and bought something and to the children for making us laugh with jokes!
We have our Christmas party on 18th December. Please note that there is ONE WEEK left to buy tickets (from school reception). We have to have this deadline to enable volunteers to prepare for the party and do all shopping so we need. Tickets will not be available after 12th December.  Please see the poster for details.
We have also tried to write a document that you can talk through with your child (or children) if they have any questions about the disco – see here: Christmas party info for children 2025. We hope this helps.
Please contact us on our Facebook page if you have any questions.

FOBs News!

Hello, Bicton School community!  I hope you all survived the cold weather last week and are gearing up for the festive season!

We have a big job to undertake and need your help!  There are various outdoor areas at the school that need repairing and upgrading, including the trim trail (bet you didn’t even know there was one!), climbing wall (you might not have known about that either!) and the early years play area.  Everything that FOBS is doing for Christmas and throughout the year will be to reach our goal of raising enough money to fix these areas, some of which, like the trim trail and climbing wall, are in such disrepair that they are unusable.

But here’s the thing, it’s a hefty goal.  We need £30,000 for the repairs and upgrades, and we can’t do it without you.  Although we have lots of little events, they don’t raise anywhere near enough to even touch that goal.

So, here’s what you can do:

  1. Give generously to the events that FOBS runs and consider joining.
  2. Ask your company or your friend or supermarket or neighbour (or Father Christmas) to make a donation to our fundraising goal.
  3. Let us know your ideas for raising money.

And some dates for your diary:

29 November (this Saturday) – Christmas Fayre at Bicton Village Hall – 2-5pm (see here)

  • FOBS will have a table so please come to support and shop!

12 December – Father Christmas visits Bicton School (during school hours) (see here)

  • Each child will receive a gift from Father Christmas but we need your donations to cover the cost of the gifts and a bit extra (if you can) to put toward our fundraising goal, so please give generously!

18 December – Christmas Party for the kids – immediately after school to 4:45pm (see here)

  • Tickets are £4 per child and we will need donations of cakes, cookies, etc for the kids (again, this is so we can try to put as much of the ticket price toward our fundraising goal as possible.

Lastly, to whet your appetite for working with us to reach our goal, a picture of the proposed new trim trail:

Sweets sale

As FOBS are unable to run their Friday sweet sales at the moment, to raise much-needed funds for school, they have come up with an alternative. On Friday 4th, children can buy a pre-prepared mixed bag of sweets for 50p. (Vegetarian sweets can also be pre-ordered in advance, by emailing school no later than 12:30 pm on Thursday.) The bags of sweets will be sold in each classroom at the end of the afternoon for children to take home.

Children need to bring the correct money in an envelope or clear bag and the monies collected will be passed to the FOBs treasurer the following week. FOBS have also got a PayPal account, which they set up earlier this year to raise funds for our school library. Parents can pay for sweets directly through this account here, to save children having to bring money into school.
