Swimming

It is Class 4’s last swimming session on Tuesday 4th and Class 5 and 6 start their swimming sessions the following week on Tuesday 11th June.

Head lice

We have had several reports of head lice in school this week.  Please could you check your child’s hair over the holiday and treat as necessary.  It would also be helpful if long hair could be tied up/plaited etc and please encourage your child not to take their hair down during the day and keep their hair up.  Your support with this would be much appreciated. Thank you

Class 5 weekly update

Well done to everyone in class 5 for a fantastic week after a full-on weekend at Arthog. Your effort levels have been incredible and the work you’ve produced has been amazing!

In English this week we have been looking at writing a character description. A prominent character has just been introduced to us in our novel and the first impressions can differ between us as readers, so it’s been really interesting to get everyone’s thoughts and perspectives on the recent events in the book and what they think the plot has in store for the next few chapters. The children have used imaginative vocabulary along with some great similes and metaphors to describe the character in brilliant detail.

In Maths this week we have been order ambien cr online focusing on the addition of mixed numbers. Everyone has worked so hard as the problems have often been three steps. The level of concentration and understanding that the children have shown has been fantastic.

On Tuesday we had our cultural diversity day. This year we looked at the cultures of Japan and Slovakia, we had talks with a Q ‘n’ A session from two of the boys in our class and the children found out lots of interesting facts about both cultures. We did a fact hunt around the classroom as well as some artwork. Thank you to both of the children who stood up and talked, you were amazing.

Have a fantastic half-term everyone and I’ll see you on Monday 3rd June.

Mr Sudlow.

Class 6 Update 24th May

English

This week the children began work on their new novel study ‘The Mysteries of Harris Burdick’ by Chris Van Allsburg.  The children studied the front cover in detail, making predictions about the story and drawing the illustration from a different perspective.  They also wrote a first person narrative of what they think may have happened to Harris Burdick, following on from reading the book’s introduction.

Geography

The children began their new topic on South America by using an atlas to identify all of the countries and capital cities that make up the continent. They also labelled the oceans surrounding South America and looked at features such as lakes, mountain ranges and which countries lie on the equator.

Cultural Diversity Day

The children each chose a different country to work on, researching the culture there.  They worked in pairs to present the information as a poster or leaflet.  The children also did some cookery that day, making jam roly polys!

Class 3 weekly update

English / Maths – All the children have been doing their end of Key stage 1 SATs in reading and maths this week.  They had two reading papers and two maths papers (arithmetic and reasoning).  They have all tried really hard with these, well done Class 3!

Science – This week we looked at describing how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals using the idea of the food chain.  The children were introduced to the terms ‘producer’, ‘consumer’, ‘predator’ and ‘prey’ and looked together at creating a food chain.  They then worked in pairs to complete interactive tasks to make a range of food chains, thinking carefully where the plants/animals were placed each time.  You can find this link at       http://• http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/games/foodchaingame.htm

RE – In RE the children have been looking at the lyrics in some Christian songs and hymns – ‘My Lighthouse’, ‘God who made the earth’ and ‘Jesus loves me’.  They worked in groups and discussed the meaning of the lyrics and what Christians might learn about God from the songs.

Art – This week we looked at different images of snakes showing their different patterns and made links to the rainbow serpent – a common motif in the art and religion of Aboriginal Australia.  The children made collages using coloured paper to create their own snake patterns.

Spellings – To be tested on Friday 7th June 24.05.19

Please can children write sentences using all their spellings in their test books.

Please can children bring in a kitchen roll tube after the holidays for an art project Miss Francis has planned.

Hope you have a fantastic half term break!
