Windspiration
Shropshire Music Service have contacted us to say thank you to schools and parents for the excellent response to this year’s Windspiration concert on Tuesday 2nd July.  In order to ensure that they do not run out of audience tickets, the conert will now run twice on that date and both concerts will feature all children.
There is no change to the overall timings of the day but children will now perform in a 4pm concert and at 5:30pm with time allowed in between these two events for children to eat. Tickets will soon be on sale from Theatre Severn box office for the 4pm concert. Please note if you are intending to watch the 4pm concert, your child will still be needed for the 2nd concert and they will need collecting just after 6:30pm. Thank you.

Class 5 weekly update

Well done Class 5 on a brilliant week!

In English, we have focused on persuasive writing. We have talked about some very mature issues that our class novel has brought up and it has been lovely to hear the children’s thoughts and opinions. We have used a debate to get across points of view, countering arguments by using facts and evidence from the book. Everyone has shown fantastic listening skills and the mature approach that the children have taken towards this topic has been extremely impressive.

In Maths we have been multiplying fractions. The children have used their knowledge of times tables to show a high level of understanding, working with the inverse operation of division, identifying the relationships between numbers to simplify multiplied fractions and to convert them into mixed numbers.

We had our first swimming session on Tuesday which was brilliant. Well done to everyone, you were super organised and demonstrated some great swimming technique. Please make sure you remember your kit next Tuesday.

On Wednesday we attended Crucial Crew. Everybody joined in the activities, tried their best and had a great time. Well done Class 5, I’m glad you enjoyed the experience.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, I’ll see you next week.

Mr Sudlow.

Class 3 weekly update – 14/6/19

English – We have been identifying the features of a non-chronological report.  The children looked at a piece of text about sharks and identified the following features – the tense it was written in, subject specific language and generic vocabulary.  They then organised information using facts and information about the Great Barrier Reef by using the appropriate sub-headings.

In Read Write Inc the green group have been reading ‘Tab the cat’ and writing about how they would look after a pet of their own.  Yellow group have been reading ‘Tom Thumb’ and designing a poster to describe the character Tom Thumb.  The rest of the class have been using the correct suffix for plurals (s/es and y/ies) and writing them in their own sentences.

Maths – This week we have been comparing length by estimating the length of an object, then identifying which is the longer / shorter length.  Then we measured the weight of objects using kilograms.  The children used a range of objects to make sensible estimates then weighed them on a pair of scales.  Then they compared capacity and volume through practical activities to explain and order different containers and explain their volume in terms of 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 full.

Science – The children completed some follow up work from their visit to the Shropshire Discovery Centre last week.  They used their survey findings to discuss which minibeasts they found in the pond and meadow areas and displayed their information using a block graph.  The children enjoyed talking about what they had found!

Spellings – To be tested on Friday 21st June. 14.06.19

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Thomas & Miss Moran

Class 1 weekly roundup

Class 1 have had a busy couple of weeks since they came back from the half term holiday.

Read Write Inc:

The children have looked at:  ew – ‘Chew the Stew’, ire – ‘Fire, Fire’ and ear – :What can you hear?’

ew         ire        ear

Maths:

Over the last 2 weeks Class 1 have concentrated on two digit numbers and looked closely at tens and ones (early place value).  We have had hands-on lessons using our tens and ones.  The children have used the language of ‘One ten and 3 ones make 13’ and have had to prove how they know this.  Some examples have included :

‘I know it is 13 because because there are 3 ones and one 10. 13 is one more than 12.  I know there are 10 (on the 20 frame) and 3 ones underneath.  It’s not 14 because there are only 3 ones.’   So far we have looked at numbers up to 15.
