Kingswood Return Time Changed

Having spoken to Kingswood this morning, we are now able to have lunch before we leave on Sunday so the coach should arrive back at Bicton at 2:30 p.m.

The signal is apparently quite ‘bad’ at Kingswood but we will do our best to upload photos to the website!

Information for Years 5 and 6

We have received a further email following the information sent out last week.  If your child is interested in attending the trials, they have asked that you contact them so that they can guage numbers.

Shropshire Warriors Basketball Trials

Shropshire Warriors Basketball Club is the only National League club in the county. We are holding trials for our Under 12, 13 and 14 National League teams on Sunday 15th June between 10.00-12.00pm. The trials (for pupils who are currently in years 5, 6, 7 and 8) take place at Telford College of Art & Technology, Haybridge Road, Wellington, Telford TF1 2NP.

We are specifically looking for players with one or more of the following characteristics:

  1. 1.   Willingness to compete
  2. 2.   Willingness to learn
  3. 3.   A degree of game sense (not necessarily in basketball)
  4. 4.   Athletic in nature particularly quickness
  5. 5.   Tall

If you are in doubt, please advise the pupil to attend.

Ability to play basketball is not a necessary prerequisite: we can teach basketball!

For the trial, players would need to wear indoor sports clothes, clean indoor trainers and bring plenty to drink.

There will be a cost of £2 per player to cover facility hire.

If you have any questions or are interested but unable to make this date please contact me via email (shropshirewarriors@gmail.com) or via phone on 07841 568726.

A typical meal if you worked in a Victorian Mill

Today Class 4 were finding out all about what life was like for poor children during Victorian times. As part of our learning we read about a little girl who worked in a mill and we found out about what the food was like there. Some children made one of the main meals which was oatcakes mixed with water and milk. We all had a taste of it and as I’m sure you can tell by the photos, we wouldn’t want to have to eat it twice a day, everyday!

Class 5 Half-Term Homework

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY HALF-TERM HOMEWORK

To be brought into School for Monday 2nd June

smoothie

Your task for half-term is to design the label for your healthy drink and find a suitable bottle in which to present it. You can use ICT or hand-draw the label and you should think about the following:

• needs to be bold and eye-catching

• name of the drink needs to stand out/be clear

• ingredients need to be listed

• health benefits of the ingredients mentioned e.g. contains natural sugars or no artificial colours

• label needs to be the right size for your bottle

You do not have to print it off at home – you can bring it in to school on a memory stick or email it to me and I will print it, if you wish.

If you have any questions, email me on my normal email address – please don’t forget to do your homework, as I’m really looking forward to seeing your design!

Weekly News 27.05.14

P.D. Day change

Our calendar has been updated to show a change to our planned P.D. days in order to fall in line with a change made by The Corbet School. The original date of Friday 24th October 2014 has now been changed to Monday 3rd November.

Home-link books

As mentioned previously, please could you remember to write a note in your child’s home-link book regarding clubs and the bus. We are still having to ring home to find out if children are staying to clubs and if they are travelling home on the bus or being collected.

Dental appointments

Unless it is for emergency treatment, please could children’s dental appointments be made for outside of the school day to prevent children from missing time in school.

YEAR 6s – Bikeability

Year 6s please remember your bikes and helmets for the first day back on Monday 2nd June.  If the sun decides to make a reappearance, please also remember to apply sun cream before coming to school and wear suitable clothing as explained in your previous letter. Due to your session times, it might be easier for you to bring a packed lunch on Monday and Tuesday but a school lunch will still be provided if you wish.

Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the half term break!

Mrs Natalie Johnson
