Making faces using natural materials

Class 1 have had lots of fun outside this morning using the natural objects they collected at the woods to make large scale faces.   They all worked well in their groups to decide how they were going to make their face and what features to use.  Well done Class 1!

Pet photos

Next Wednesday (October 8th) Class 1 will be looking at and talking about their pets / favourite pets.  Can all children please bring in a photo of their pet so we can look at them together in class.  If they don’t have a pet they can bring in a picture of their favourite pet or a pet they would like.

Many thanks,

Mrs Thomas

Year 6 Bikeability

Just a reminder to Year 6 children that they need to bring their bikes and helmets to school on Wednesday for their first Bikeability session.  Children may leave their bikes and helmets at school overnight, if they wish, for Thursday and Friday; their bikes need to be chained up in the bike racks overnight or can be left in the corridor outside Class 5 .  If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs Johnson or Mrs Jones.

Sickness

If your child has suffered from vomiting or diarrhoea, please could they not return to school until 48 hours after the last ‘episode.’  This is in line with Health Protection Agency guidelines.

School Calendar

We have now received all the reply slips back for the school calendar photographs. Your child/children will be bringing home a letter next week explaining what they will need to bring to school to wear for the photograph with each month having a different theme. This will not require you to purchase anything additional for the photograph.

Parents’ Lunch

Thank you to parents and family members of Class 1 children who found time to join us for lunch last week.  Class 2 are now looking forward to their parents and family members joining them for lunch the week after next.

Helicopter Visit

We are very excited about a forthcoming helicopter visit from RAF Shawbury, as part of Class 5’s topic on WW1.  During the morning of Wednesday 15th October, all classes will spend time looking at the aircraft and no doubt asking lots of questions. Parents and guardians are more than welcome to pop in during the visit but could we please ask adults to park at the village hall car park and not to park on Bicton Lane; parking spaces will be very limited before school and during that morning as the spaces along the hall/rear side of the school will be ‘out of use.’

Books

Children in each class have now given Mrs Johnson a list of books which they would like School to purchase with the money from FOBs. If there are particular books or authors which your child enjoys reading at home, and you think would be of benefit to the rest of the School, please let Mrs Johnson or the Office know and these can be added to the list.

Hoping you all have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Johnson

If you go down to the woods today…

Class 1 went to the woods for the first time today to collect lots of different natural materials, e.g. twigs, leaves, feathers to use for some natural art making our faces tomorrow.  We had lots of fun exploring the natural environment around us and talking about what we could use our objects for.  We were very impressed by how sensible they all were when crossing the roads safely and exploring the woods.

Leaving Gift

As some of you may already be aware, Reverend Christopher Deakin will be leaving our parish in November and moving to Chester.  The children have all got to know Chris through his fortnightly Open The Book assemblies, his visits into class and also through the various events that he has organised at Bicton Church over the past few years, which we will miss.  Chris has also been a valued member of our Governing Body and we are grateful to him for his contribution to the life of the school and for his continued support.

Each class will be creating a card to say thank you and good luck to Chris but we would also like to show our appreciation of what he has done for the school by purchasing a gift.  If you would like to contribute to a leaving gift, any donations would be gratefully received and can be sent in with your child or given to Mrs Jones or Mrs Neal at the Office.

Many thanks

New and Old Toys

Children in Class One have recently been sharing  information about their favourite things from home, including their favourite toy. This morning all the children in Class One watched a short programme about ‘Toys from the past’. The children enjoyed finding out information about how toys and games were different many years ago to toys and games that are available today. Some children also noticed that quite a few of the toys were still used today – such as skipping ropes and hoops. We thought it was important to remember that it can be just as much fun playing games, such as hopscotch and running around together outside as it is to sit and use the latest game on the computer! All of the children worked either in groups with an adult or tried hard in pairs to sort pictures of new and old toys. Here is a link to the video we watched : http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/victorian_britain/toys_and_games/

This afternoon we are looking forward to Child Initiated time inside and outside. The Year 1 children will be continuing to find out about forces/different types of movement and how objects move in different ways.
