Thank you

Thank you very much for the lovely gifts that you kindly sent in for us before the Christmas break. We really appreciate them!

Mrs Conde, Mrs Thomas and Miss Bellis

Monday 12th January 2015

Class One have had another busy day today. This morning, we spent time exploring how to use positional language. The children carried out activities involving using language such as next to, behind, above, under. Some children played a game with Miss Bellis where they had to say where they thought the puppet was. At first he was hiding under a box.

After break, we carried out lots of Letters and Sounds activities. Some children were recalling sounds from last week and looking at how to use a phoneme frame correctly. Children in Year 1 were looking at the alternative ‘i’ sound and how the ‘i’ sound differs in words such as ‘kite’ and ‘sink’.

This afternoon we had a great time learning about the Norther Lights, or Aurora Borealis. The children were amazed when they watched a video about the fantastic light shows that can be seen from places such as Lapland.

They watched a video and then thought about which colours they could see in the sky when the northern lights were taking place. The children then looked at landscape silhouettes and then created their own silhouette of trees and mountains using black paper. They then all used coloured chalks to create a scene of Aurora Borealis on black card. The silhouettes were then stuck on top of the card to create the effect of a scene from Lapland. These have been put up already in our role play area to create a backdrop of Aurora Borealis!

Tomorrow we will be looking at the location of the polar regions and finding out a little bit more about the areas by looking at our collection of non-fiction books.

Here are the links to the video watched today and the images of Aurora Borealis. I am sure your children would love to watch them again!

The case of the missing fish!

Today Class 1 discovered an abandoned dinghy on the playground!  All the children were very excited and talked about where it might have come from and shared lots of great ideas.  They also found a letter from the King Penguin asking them to help him and the penguins to find the missing fish…

The children thought they could help the penguins by making some fish and sending them back on the boat so they don’t starve.

Polar clothes

Class 1 have had another busy day and all worked very hard.  This morning we found a suitcase full of clothes in the role play area and talked about what kind of places we would wear these.  We talked about the Arctic and Antarctic to see what they had remembered from yesterday.  The Reception children used collage materials to make a warm outfit and the Year 1 children designed their own outfit adding labels and sentences.
