Class 2 World Book Day

Yesterday we had a very busy day! We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then we started to make our own story and had lots of hungry animals eating different foods. Then we went into the hall and showed the other classes our costumes. After break we went on a hunt around school to find a variety of different fruits to make fruity flapjacks with after lunch. Well done Class 2 for taking part yesterday. (null)

Class 1 World Book Day

Everyone knows that Class 1 love listening to stories so we based all the activities today around one of their favourite book characters …Elmer!  We read the first part of ‘Elmer Again’ before our special assembly and children had fantastic ideas for how the other elephants in the story might dress up for their special parade.  We then used these ideas to decorate our own elephants and had a lot of fun especially when the glitter came out!

Year 1s practised the alternative ‘y’ sounds to write sentences about Elmer and Reception went on a hunt around school for two-syllable words. They came up with some super words including ‘Elmer, costume and patchwork!’

We also listened to a Japanese story read by our very own Class 1 storyteller who had everyone’s attention!

Look out next week for our Elmer display which Class 1 are looking forward to creating on Friday.

World Book Day – Bicton Style!

What can we say…today’s costumes were amazing!!! The children and staff had a fantastic day and, on behalf of all the staff, thank you so much for the trouble you went to with your child’s/children’s costumes.  We took literally hundreds of photos but here’s a taste of today…

World Book Day

Class 4 have had a lovely day today. There’s been a scavenger hunt this morning where we had to find objects from famous stories, we’ve written part of a story, designed our own book token, been to the book fair, had a tea party and told each other about our favourite stories. Here’s some photos from our day……emma 415 emma 416 emma 417 emma 418 emma 419 emma 420 emma 421 emma 422 emma 423 emma 424 emma 425 emma 426 emma 427 emma 428 emma 429 emma 430 emma 431 emma 432 emma 433 emma 434 emma 435 emma 436 emma 437 emma 438 emma 439 emma 440 emma 441 emma 442 emma 443 emma 444 emma 445 emma 446 emma 447 emma 448 emma 452 emma 453 emma 454 emma 455 emma 456 emma 458

A busy day in Class One!

Class One children have been working very hard today. This morning we spent time exploring symmetry using many different resources and equipment. We watched a programme all about symmetry on the BBC website. Here’s the link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/ztpyr82

Here are some photos of the activities carried out in class:

We spent time learning about two syllable words in Letters and Sounds. Some children also looked at the alternative ‘y’ sounds (as in fry, cry, sky) as opposed to the ‘y’ sound in ‘happy’ or ‘funny’.

The children then spent time using different resources and equipment to practice their handwriting and letter formation.

Here are some photos of this:

This afternoon we explored an application on the iPads called ‘Scratch’. This is a child friendly programming application. More information can be found here : http://www.scratchjr.org/  and there is more information and photos on the photo sheet here:

The children have also spent time in child initiated areas, reading and working with maths and literacy resources independently.

Book Character Dressing Up Day

The children all seem very excited about World Book Day on Thursday 5th March and many have been sharing which book character they are dressing up as.  We are looking forward to seeing the children and staff’s outfits and prizes will be presented during the day for best costume/s in each class.

Usborne Books will be in school during the afternoon and after school and all books sold will earn commission for school to purchase books.

If you are having difficulty finding a costume for your child, please speak to your child’s class teacher and we will try to help if we can.

Thank you as always for your support.
