Can you see in the dark?

The children in Class 1 have been exploring how we see and have discovered that they can’t see in the dark.

The children could all see their Compare Bear’s colour really well when the lights were on.

When the lights were switched off they couldn’t see what colour their Compare Bear was, they couldn’t even see their hands!

Year 1

Science:  To understand dark is the absence of light

EYFS:

LO: To know that we can’t see in the dark and that light helps us to see

UTW – W: Make observations and explain why some things occur

Dear Parents/Carers,

Tonight children have taken home English homework. There are a variety of activities on the worksheet where children have to think about selecting the most appropriate adjectives.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs Foster.

Kind regards,

Science afternoon

This half term Class 4 are learning about the topic of light in our science lessons.  This week they explored shadows.  They were challenged to make different shapes on the playground with their shadows.  They then worked in groups to make shadow puppet theatres to tell a story.  Great work Class 4!!

School Council

This week the Co-op invited our School Council to their store.  The children had a great afternoon tasting produce, stacking shelves, sorting displays and exploring the store.  They learnt lots about supermarkets that they did not already know!

Children In Need – Thank you!

Thank you for such a fantastic effort with children’s costumes today and for the donations of cakes, biscuits, sweets and not forgetting donations for not wearing school uniform.  By the end of morning break we had raised over £180 and with more cakes sold after school we raised a grand total of £241.86!  Thank you again for all your support with our fundraising efforts today.

Shoe Boxes

Many thanks for the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  If you are planning on filling a shoe box, these will be collected from school on the morning of Tuesday 17th November.

Swimming Gala

You may have noticed that our area swimming gala is being held next Wednesday at Oswestry.  Originally we were intending on asking some of our Year 4 children to take part but we have such a strong group of swimmers in Year 4 that there simply aren’t enough events for them all to compete in.  Therefore only Years 5 and 6 will be competing this year but we are definitely looking forward to seeing our current Year 4 children taking part next year!

Craft Club

Just a reminder that there is a small charge of £1 a week for children attending Craft Club on Wednesdays.

Arthog

We need to give Arthog the final numbers by Tuesday so please could you return the letter and deposit by Tuesday morning.  If you have any questions, about the visit prior to booking your child’s place, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs Jones.

Year 5 Brass Forms

If you would like your Year 5 child to take their brass instrument home to practise, please could you return the form to confirm that you have home insurance in place to cover the instrument. Thank you in advance.

Untitled

Today in Class 3 we had a visitor – ‘Mountaineering Moss’ a real life explorer! She came and showed us lots of equipment a modern day explorer would use and she taught us how to read a map. We then had to use our skills we had learnt to find some clues around the school. We also learnt about the different places where people can go and explore.
