Attendance and Punctuality 23.06.23

This was our first ‘On Time’ week – our new initiative to improve punctuality. Each time a child has been in school by 8:45 am a ticket with their name on has gone into a box e.g. if they have been on time every day, they will have had 5 tickets in the box.

The raffle was drawn at the end of the day in our Friday worship and the winner was Isaac S in Birch class. Isaac will receive a £10 gift card for The Works next week and we will repeat this each half term.

Well done to Birch class who had the highest attendance for the second week in a row!

Willow  96.5%

Birch     97.9%

Maple   93.3%

Rowan  92.1%

Oak      91%

Willow and Birch classes had the least number of ‘lates’ this week.

Sports Day – Change of date

Further to my earlier email this week, we have taken the early decision to move Sports Day to Thursday 6th July. This is due to potential industrial action on 5th and 7th which may affect our school.

Have a lovely weekend.

Safer School Parent Survey

The Safer School initiative is a school security initiative that encompasses personal safety. It was created by West Mercia Police with the support of Shropshire Council, and virtually all Shropshire schools are following the process.

The initiative is a practical and realistic risk management approach to the security/safety of school staff, pupils, property and the premises. Following the satisfactory completion of the process, schools receive the Safer School accreditation, and this accreditation is reviewed every two years.  Our school was accredited in 2017. No two schools are the same and therefore, it is site specific to individual schools. The process involves annual Safer School meetings, with representatives of the school following a comprehensive package.

The essential elements of the package are as follows:

1. Implement basic security measures applicable at all schools i.e. property marking, and visitor passes etc.

2. Consider pro-active security/safety measures for the site/building and protecting assets.

3. Establish a procedure for recording incidents i.e. anti social behaviour, vandalism etc. Any recorded information can then be analysed. In addition, the same recording procedure can be used for surveying a problem i.e. an unauthorised thoroughfare.

4. If there are any projects to be undertaken, they are prioritised. Following the implementation of a project, the success of it is reviewed.

5. PSHE or education of pupils as per the Safer School pack.

As part of the process, we would appreciate your views. Please could you complete the online survey by 9:00 am on Tuesday 27th June and forward any particular views/concerns, including any positive observations.  The focus of the survey is the school grounds/site. Your responses will be reviewed at our Safer School meeting next week and we thank you in advance for your time.

sQuid Catering Purse

Please remember to top up your child’s catering purse on sQuid. Our school administrators are having to phone / email on a daily basis when children do not have sufficient funds available to order their lunch. Thank you.

Monday update 19.06.23

Hello everyone,

Sports Day – Change of date

We have received a few enquiries today about the potential strike days on 5th and 7th July – you may have heard about these new dates in the news over the weekend.

At this time, I do not know if our teaching staff will be striking on those two dates but it is likely that the industrial action will affect our school. Therefore, we have taken the decision to move Sports Day to Thursday 6th July. The times and arrangements will stay the same. Thank you in advance for your support.

School photos Tuesday 20th June

Remember it is school photos tomorrow so all children need to arrive in school uniform. If children have PE tomorrow, they should bring their PE kit to get changed into after their photos.

Younger siblings who do not attend nursery can have their photo taken with siblings who attend our school and nursery.  This will be in the Hall from 8:15 am onwards – please do not arrive any earlier.

Children in school and nursery will be taken to the Hall during the morning to have individual and class photos, as well as with their siblings who are in school/nursery.

If you have a child in nursery but they do not attend on Tuesdays, you can bring them to the Hall before the start of the day to have their photo taken. This also applies to any younger siblings who do not attend our nursery.

As it is the Year 5 Open Morning at The Corbet School tomorrow, we will do our very best to make sure that your child has their photo taken if they are out at The Corbet. (Year 5s need to order their lunch before going to The Corbet please.)

Year 6 Leavers’ events

Wednesday 19th July – Meal at Hickory’s (details to follow)

Friday 21st July – Year 6 parents’ lunch (details to follow)

Parking on Bicton Lane

We have received ongoing complaints about people parking on or very close to the crossing on Bicton Lane.  This is extremely dangerous to pedestrians. We ask you to refrain from doing this, to help keep children and adults crossing to and from our school and nursery safe.

Online Safety

We are aware that some of our pupils are using Snapchat which has an age restriction of 13+. Please see a parent guide below with advice on using Snapchat.

And finally…

We had an amazing weekend at Arthog and our Year 5/6s were a credit to their parents and to our school. We still have a large number of photos to upload so please bear with us if you have not yet seen your child’s group photos on the website!
