We’re in the paper!

Just to let you know, some of the children from last year’s class 3 are in tonight’s Shropshire Star regarding our letter from the Queen.

Parking Measures

Further to the letter sent home on Tuesday, and previous letters and emails, thank you to adults who have parked at the Village Hall or made other arrangements for travelling to and from school. A further letter has been sent home today concerning the following:

We would like to reiterate that there is no parking in the school car park before or after school including when collecting from after school clubs that finish at 4:15 or 4:30.  It is still possible to drive into the car park to drop children at the Hall for Breakfast or 8:30 Club and also to collect children from Film Club on Tuesdays after 5:00 p.m.  These measures are for everyone’s safety, as well as ensuring that delivery vehicles can access and exit the school site safely, and were discussed at length and agreed by the School’s Governing Body and the Local Authority prior to the commencement of the building work.

It is also imperative that vehicles are not parked on the zig zag lines on Bicton Lane or on the crossing, which has been the case on several days this week, as adults and children are unable to see if it is safe to cross the road and residents cannot see to drive out on to Bicton Lane safely. There are still disabled parking spaces available for badge holders and thank you to parents who have enquired about this.  If you have any questions about the current arrangements, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

8:30 Club – no fee during building work from next week

To help ease parking in the village before school, there will be no cost from next week onwards for the 8:30 club whilst the school car park is out of use.  Adults can drop children at the Hall between 8:30 and 8:35 at the latest and children will be supervised by a member of staff before being taken to their classes at 8:45. Please ask if you have any questions.

Defibrillator training – Monday 19th September from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

We have at last been able to secure a provider to deliver training for our defibrillator which we were able to purchase last year through fund raising and several donations. The training is open to any parents and if you would like to attend please let the Office know. Further details are in the letter attached below.

Class 3 Weekly Update

We have had a great week in Class 3 and the children are settling back in well. Here is a brief overview of what we have been doing in English and Maths.

English – We have been doing some work for display to make our classroom look lovely! The children have written about their summer holiday and have completed a book review on their favourite book. Next week we will begin our work on Roald Dahl.

Maths – We have been revising what we already know about place value. The children created their own ‘Place Value Museums’ for me where they used equipment, pictures and number sentences to explain what numbers are made up of, e.g. 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 = 34, 30 + 4 = 34, 20 + 14 = 34 etc. We have been revising how to look at numbers in 10s and 1s and next week will progress onto 3 and 4 digit numbers. We have also done some problem solving using our knowledge of place value to help us.

Spelling – We have done some revision on the rules for adding the suffixes ‘ed’ and ‘ing’. We will continue to revise this next week. Please bear in mind that the first few weeks spelling often consists of revising spelling rules and patterns already taught and it may take some time to ensure your child has been put in the appropriate spelling group. Therefore your child may change groups over the next few weeks but assessment will be used within school to decide this. We always stress to the children that it is not just about getting all your spellings right on a Friday, but it is about getting them right in your independent work everyday.

PE – The children had their first outdoor PE lesson today which they really enjoyed. Please can you ensure the appropriate kit is always in school, particularly on a Tuesday and Friday. Indoor and outdoor kit is necessary as well as trainers.

Homework – The children have been given geography homework this week due in for next Friday. Please see the link below for details.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Barratt

Class 2 weekly update

Class 2 have settled back into school really well this week. They have been excited to get started on our ‘Pole Apart’ topic!

Maths – We have started to identify and represent numbers in maths this week.

Year 1 – have been using play dough, equipment (cubes) and stickers to represent numbers to 20, in a range of different ways. We have also looked at writing numbers as numerals and words today.

Year 2 – have used a range of different equipment to represent numbers to 100. We have also answered questions about e.g. What is one more/less? What is double/half? What is ten more/less? To end the week, we have been writing numbers as numerals and words.

English – We have been learning about/recapping on adjectives this week. We started describing Arctic and Antarctic animals with a range of different adjectives, then shared a story called ‘Who’s that’ – Arctic Animals. This used lovely adjectives and helped us match descriptions.

Phonics

Year 1 – have focussed on the ‘ay’ phoneme this week.

Year 2 – have learned the ‘ge’ spelling at the end of a word.

Spellings – The children have been provided with a new spelling book today and given their first set of spellings to learn for the week. The children will be tested next Friday (16th) first thing in the morning in the back of their books. Please could you spend a few minutes a night practising with your child.

9-9-16

PE – Just a reminder that your child needs a full PE kit available for the whole week. Please could you ensure that individual items of clothing are clearly labelled.

Attached is the Autumn Term curriculum letter sent home at the beginning of the week.

sany5769

2. Put their PE kits and spare clothes in their lockers.

sany5771

3. Choose their school lunch.

sany5766

The children can also change their choosing book in a morning (parents may wish to help them do that).

sany5767

Each child will also be bringing home a school reading and reading diary, please do comment in the reading diaries when your child has read to you, this can be about any book that your child has read /shared with you.   We will change your child’s reading book.

At the end of the day, we are now going to open the gate and ask parents / guardians to come and wait outside the classroom window.   Children will then be dismissed from the classroom.

Fun with Maths

The children have enjoyed playing more maths games this morning and singing counting songs.  Our favourite at the moment is 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive.
