Class 4 Homework

In Maths we have been revising and practising methods for addition and subtraction. This week we have looked at different methods for subtraction, including counting up on a number line and using the more formal column methods. We have also talked about which methods we are more confident with and which methods are more efficient for different types of questions.

Please ensure children complete their homework by Monday so that it can be marked and new homework stuck in before it is due to be sent out again next Wednesday.

Singing in phonics

Today the children looked at the sound ‘u’ and practised writing it.  When writing ‘u’ we say – ‘ down and under, up to the top and down to draw the puddle.’

We then sang our ‘u’ song and recorded it to show our Mums and Dads.

Choir performing at Bicton Church Harvest Service

The children have been busy practising this week for the Harvest Service at Bicton Church on Sunday 2nd at 6:30 p.m.  We hope to see you there.

Parents’ Evenings

The booking system for Parents’ Evenings in October will open on the website next Monday (3rd October.)  Please note that Class 5’s second evening is on a different day to the rest of the school.  If you are unable to attend on the dates available, please speak to your child’s class teacher(s) and they will endeavour to find an alternative time and day to meet with you.

Condover Residential

If you have any questions about the Year 3/4 residential visit to Condover next April e.g. about the type of activities we do, dormitory arrangements, etc. please speak to myself or Miss Barratt. We need to confirm the numbers and pay the deposits by the end of this half term.

Special Lunch – Thursday 7th October

Red – Hot dogs

Blue – Fish finger wraps

Served with a choice of ketchup/mayo/BBQ sauce/American mustard

Purple Mash

In assembly this morning, children were introduced to Purple Mash which is a new educational website that we have subscribed to for curriculum resources and homework.  An information letter will be sent home with children next week, together with their individual log in details.  We discussed the importance today of never sharing a password, other than with family (and teachers), so if your child comes home this evening and says they were told “not to share” you now know why!

Teachers will explore the website with their class next week and show them how to log in, locate, complete, save and submit their homework and look at the different resources on the site.  If you have any questions, once you have had chance to look at the website, please speak to myself or any of the teachers.

Have a good weekend.

Class 3 Weekly Update

It’s been another great week in Class 3!

English – We have continued our work on George’s Marvellous Medicine this week with a focus on learning about time and cause conjunctions. The children have planned and written Instructions for their own Marvellous Medicine including lots of time and cause conjunctions as well as imperative verbs. They were very good and we can’t wait for you to see them at parents evening!

Maths – We have finished off our work on place value this week by continuing to learn about rounding numbers to the nearest 100 (Y4) and learning about finding 10 more 10 less, 100 more and 100 less of 3 digit numbers (Y3). The children have shown me everything they have learned by creating their own Place Value museum as well as completing an end of unit assessment. We will be moving onto addition next week.

Science – We have planned an investigation as a class to find out if the surface of a ramp will affect the speed of a toy car. We planned it together to ensure we understood how to plan effectively. The investigation will be carried out on Monday.

Geography – We have learned about the names of the seas that surround the UK this week using an atlas to help us. The children are getting very good at independently locating relevant information in an atlas.

Art – The children have learned about a British Artist called ‘Thomas Gainsborough’ this week. We then had a go at painting a portrait in a similar style to him.

RE – We have continued to think about who we consider to be our neighbour this week.

Spelling – This was the final week of learning about the rules for words ending in ‘le’. The children have learned three different rules (see previous weeks spellings) and must now begin to apply these to their independent writing.

French – We have continued to learn how to hold a conversation when we greet someone.

Have a lovely weekend!

The voting was very close, and well done to all of our candidates.  The 2 children who had slightly more votes were:   Matilda and Arley.
