Class 3 Weekly Update

Class 3 have been working hard this week:

English:  We are currently reading the story ‘The Twits’ and are linking lots of grammar and punctuation work to this. This week the children have been learning how to use inverted commas correctly and have been practising this within their work. They have also learned about when to use ‘an’ in a sentence.

Maths: Children have been adding and subtracting in the context of money. We revised our mental subtraction skills and learned how to count on using a number line to subtract.

Science: We carried out an investigation to test the strength of magnets this week. We learned how to record our results accurately and then presented them in a bar chart.

Geography: We continued to learn about counties this week, especially Shropshire. We were finding out about rivers in Shropshire, landmarks, towns and villages as well as famous people who have lived here.

Computing: The children are using an app called videolicious where they are creating a film about the things they love about Bicton School.

PE: The children have continued to practise key skills as well as developing their understanding of the game of hockey.

RE: We have begun to think about what we already know about the Christmas story and the names and importance of key people.

Homework: Your child has been set homework this week, please see post above for details.

Diwali

The children in Class1 have been learning about Diwali – the Hindu festival of light.  This has given them a greater understanding of the world particularly in relation to other customs.

In Maths they have looked at patterns and made symmetrical rangoli pictures.  They have also made Barfi sweets where they had to measure out the ingredients.

In Expressive arts and design they have shaped clay into divas, decorated a hand with a mehndi pattern and collaged rangolis with coloured rice.

In Literacy the children have listened to the story of Rama and Sita and sequenced it. They also had to follow a recipe to make their Diwali sweets.

The children have enjoyed playing Diwali games on : http://www.iboard.co.uk/teacher/bictonclass1/3  and http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/ngfl/re/b-dag/ngfl-container/re-unit3-en.html

POLITE REQUEST FROM MRS JOHNSON

Please could we ask all parents/guardians again not to park on Bicton Lane.  Furthermore, parking on the pavement causes an obstruction and can endanger the lives of pedestrians and other motorists.

Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph Lyrics

Please find attached a copy of the lyrics for each song from Joseph in order to help your child practise their songs.
