Walk to the farm

Tomorrow afternoon Class 1 will be going on a local walk. This time we will be popping into Mrs Pink’s farm to see the new lambs. As it may be muddy we will all be wearing wellies. If your child’s wellies are not in school, can you send them in tomorrow please. We do have spare ones if you don’t have any. The children will wear our waterproof jackets and trousers if required.

Easter Egg Hunt at the Co-op

A group of children visited the Co-op this morning to search for 100 carefully-hidden creme eggs.  They seemed easy to spot at first but the last few proved extremely difficult to find! It was lovely to see the children helping each other and sharing out their eggs so that everyone had 10 each to take home. Thank you again to Laura and staff for inviting us to the Co-op.

A Fantastic Gardening Day at Bicton!

Who needs Ground Force when you have families, friends and staff like this?!

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time today for our gardening and DIY day. As you can see from the photo gallery, it was a really productive day and the showers didn’t put anyone off. The bacon rolls, cakes and cuppas kept everyone going and the turnout of volunteers was so good buy valium suppositories that a second trip to the Co-op was needed to restock supplies! There are far too many names to mention but I’m sure everyone who was there will agree that Graham and family need a big thank you ?

There is still plenty to do so we will be having another gardening day in a few weeks time – hope to see you there!

Weekly News 31.03.17

Thank you everyone!

To say we have had a busy week is a bit of an understatement! I know I speak on behalf of all the staff in saying thank you to all the children for their wonderful attitude in our motto assembly yesterday and in our celebration assembly and mini-marathon today.

Mini marathon

We will let you know next week exactly how many miles the children and staff collectively ran today but it was approximately 15 marathons – many children ran in excess of 5 miles which is an incredible achievement!  Please could all sponsor forms and monies be brought into school by Friday 7th April at the latest and thank you in advance for your support with your fundraising efforts. A big thank you also to Nikki for spending the day with us and to the FOBs ladies for serving refreshments throughout the day.

 Condover residential

We are looking forward to next week’s 3-day visit to Condover Hall.  If you still have any questions at all about the visit, please speak to Miss Barratt or myself on Monday or Tuesday.

Cancelled clubs

There is no craft club next Wednesday and there will be no Brill club or cross country club next Friday 7th April.

Attendance and punctuality

Please could we remind everyone that medical appointments for children, including dental appointments, should be made for after school or during school holidays unless it is for emergency/urgent treatment.  We have also noticed that the number of late arrivals has increased in recent weeks and this is monitored weekly in school and by our EWO.

Class 2 Weekly Update

The children had a fantastic day on Monday at Chirk Castle! There are many more fantastic photos to appear on the website, I will do my best to get these on this weekend 🙂

English: We have continued with our instruction writing and looking specifically at time vocabulary e.g. first, second, next, then, after that, etc. The children have enjoyed making up their own special creature and writing instructions on how to catch it.

Maths: We have finished off our work on position and direction, the children enjoyed playing on the play ground with PE equipment and following instructions on where to place the objects e.g. inside a hoop, on the left hand side of the bench… year 2 children also recapped on clockwise, anticlockwise, 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 turns and continuing patterns of shapes.

History: In our topic this week the children designed their own coat of arms and wrote about their favourite things to decorate it.

Phonics: Year 1: alternative spelling for the ‘oa’ and ‘m’ phoneme.

Year 2: alternative spellings for the vowel phonemes.

Spellings: Spellings to be tested on 7.4.17

31.3.17 spellings

Homework: I would like year 2 children to complete pages 10, 35 and 36 of their KS1 Maths SAT Buster book please and hand in for Friday 7th April. If year 1 children could have a practise at counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s this would be great as we have been doing this in some of our starter lessons in maths.

Have a good weekend!

Miss Edwards

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have done some grammar work this week on using the possessive apostrophe. We have done this for singular and plural nouns. The children have also been set the task of designing a new set of chocolates for Mr Wonka’s factory to produce. They have done some research into the different types of chocolate as well as finding out the kinds of things they will need to include on their packaging. We will link this to some advertising work after Easter as well as to our D&T work.

Maths: We have continued our work on place value with the children identifying the value of each digit in a 3 (year 3’s) and 4 (year 4’s) digit number. We have used this knowledge to begin to solve more complex problems and have applied it to addition and subtraction problems.

Science: This week we have learned about the scientific processes of evaporation, condensation and melting. We observed these processes in an investigation and then made observational drawings.

RE: We have been reminding ourselves of the Easter story through reading the Bible and watching video clips from The Miracle Maker.

Other activities this week have included practising for Celebration Assembly, making Easter cards and the whole school marathon.

Homework: The children have not been given homework today – they will be set a piece of Maths and English homework to complete over the Easter holidays which will be given out next Tuesday.

Celebration assembly

The children are looking forward to singing our celebration assembly song for you tomorrow.  The children do not need any different clothes for it.  After the assembly the children will be taking part in the mini marathon. Children need to be in school uniform for the assembly then we will all change into our PE clothes for the rest of the day. Can you please make sure your child has outdoor trainers with them as we will be running around the field.

Thank you

Marathon Ready!! – News from Nikki

Latest news from Nikki…

Well this week I did my last long run of 19 miles!!

According to many Marathon running plans 18-20 miles is a good guide. So I went for 19. I was advised not to do more as I have had some problems with  my Achilles and my foot arch. So for the next 3 weeks (yes, that’s all that I have left!!?) i will be doing what they call tapering and hoping to remain injury free!

I am looking forward to joining all the children on Friday with their mini-marathon. Tell them they can prepare for it by: 1. Eating a good balanced tea the night before; 2. Get a good night’s sleep and 3. Eat a good breakfast in the morning.

I will be doing the same thing on my marathon day too.

Please can you remind them to BRING THEIR SPONSOR FORMS WITH THEM ON FRIDAY. Just one evening left to ask friends, family and neighbours for sponsors!

My fundraising has been great and I now have just over £1000. If you’d like to show your support the link is

http//:uk.virginmoneygiving.com/nicolacooke

Every £ helps, and really motivates me also.

Nikki

Double trouble!

We have been looking at doubles this week. The children have worked out the cost of 2 items that are the same, doubled ladybug spots and doubled the amount of objects when they passed through the double hoop.
