Gardening Party Saturday 10th June

Can you spare a few hours this weekend on Saturday 10th June? If so, we would love you to join us at our next gardening party.

We still have lots of fences to be painted (weather-permitting) and some of the play equipment to be reinstalled, as well as plenty of other jobs, so your help is much needed. If you would like to take part in the event on 10th June, please could you sign the contact list in reception or speak to myself or Catherine Orrell.  We are not sure yet if there will be refreshments, as we know that several of the FOBS ladies are unavailable on Saturday, but we will let you know later in the week.

Our aim is to finish as much as possible this weekend so that the children can start to enjoy the wildlife garden before the end of term!

Thank you in advance for your support.

Welcome back

We are pleased to welcome back Mrs Conde who will be working in Class 4 alongside Miss Carr and Mrs Foster for the remainder of the summer term.

Weekly News 26.05.17

Nursery/Class 1 outdoor area

Please could we stress that the area outside Class 1 and Nursery is not to be used after school under any circumstances.  The equipment, apparatus and resources are there for children in Nursery and Class 1 to use with staff present and not for children to use after 3:15.  Thank you.

Arthog Consent Forms

If you have not already done so, please can you return your child’s Arthog consent form on Monday 5th June.  Even if your child does not take any medication, we still need the Telford and Wrekin Consent Form completing as it is a requirement of Arthog.

Concord College – Choir event

If you are planning on attending the choir competition at Concord College, we have been informed by the organisers that adults watching must arrive by 9:45 as they are not permitting anyone to enter once the performances start. This is to ensure that the children performing are not distracted.

We hope you have a good half-term break and we return to school on Monday 5th June.

Mrs Johnson and staff

On behalf of staff and governors, thank you for your support today and for the positive response towards our decision to cancel today’s visit.  Mrs Foster and Miss Carr will send out a letter once they have made arrangements for an alternative visit later this term.

Mrs Johnson

Painted lady butterflies

We are very excited to announce we have become butterfly parents today!  4 of the 5 butterflies have now emerged from their cocoons. The children have been busy giving them names.

At the beginning of term, 5 tiny caterpillars arrived in class.

They then began to eat rather a lots and got bigger every day.

Just like the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, our caterpillars became full and wrapped themselves up into their cocoon.  We were amazed to see how much the cocoons wiggled!

We are expecting a representative from Reading University in school next Thursday to meet with the children for whom we have received completed surveys and parental permission forms.  If you would still like your child to take part, please return the survey and permission form by Tuesday 23rd. We still have a few surveys at the school office if you have mislaid the original information pack.

English Year 1 children have been reading the traditional tale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ this week and have been remembering the story through the use of story maps and role play activities. After finishing the SATs year 2 children have been having a go at independently writing a set of instructions with little input.

Maths Year 1 children have been adding within the context of money, adding 10p, adding to make different amounts, adding to make the same amount in different ways, etc. Year 2 children had a go at recapping their knowledge of capacity yesterday using the correct vocabulary when saying how much a container held.

Science In Science the children enjoyed labelling plant parts and making a poster about ‘what a plant needs to grow’.

Phonics We have been revising split digraphs this week a-e (same), e-e (these), i-e (fine), o-e (bone) and u-e (cube).

Year 2 have made me very proud this week with their attitude towards the SATs paper. They have all tried their very best and I couldn’t have asked for more 🙂 Well done Year 2!!!!

Have a great weekend!

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: As you are aware from previous posts below, the children have had a great week doing some work linked to the borrowers. They have planned, designed and made a house for the Borrowers to live in outside and have written a letter to Arietty to try to persuade her to choose their house to live in. If you haven’t seen the photographs yet, do scroll below to previous posts to see how much the children were enjoying themselves. Next week we will continue to read some more of the Borrowers story and do some independent writing linked to this.

Maths: We have been revising lots of different skills and concepts in maths this week. We began the week by revising our knowledge of how to give directions – linking it to right angles and degrees in a turn. We have also played some games where we have had to apply our column methods. To end the week we have re-visited multiplication. We have gone over how to do a sum such as 40 x 4 by doing 4 x 4 then making our answer 10 times bigger. Next week we will continue with multiplication, going over the grid method and we will be doing some work on the bus stop method for division as well.

Please continue to support your child with learning their times tables as this will help them in our lessons.

Science: This week we have learned about the water cycle. We have described the different stages and have been using the scientific terms to describe this process.

D&T: The children have been finalising their designs for their packaging which we will hopefully begin creating next week.

Music: The children have continued to learn about singing games, linking it to rhythm and pattern.

PSHE: The children have continued to discuss feelings and how people feel in different situations. They have discussed how to deal with feelings of frustration and disappointment.

PE: The children have continued with their swimming and tennis lessons this week.

Have a lovely weekend!
