Gardening Day

Tomorrow, Saturday 24th June, is our last gardening/DIY day and we would love to see you if you can spare an hour or two.  FOBS will be serving refreshments again and thank you to people who have offered to bring cakes along as well.

The children from Nursery upwards have been using the wildlife garden over the past couple of weeks and it has been lovely to see it in use. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the project and created such a wonderful area for the children to enjoy.

Sports Day

Thank you again to everyone who came along to watch the children take part in our Sports Day and also to FOBS for serving refreshments. We are working our way through the hundreds of photos that were taken during the day and we will upload a selection to the website as soon as possible.

In assembly on Thursday, the children in every class split into pairs with younger children working with older children to share what they enjoyed most or what they were most proud of.  Some of these comments will then be put up on display for everyone to read alongside photos of the day.  Bicton children we are all extremely proud of you!

Arthog

Please could any outstanding balances for Arthog be paid on Monday.  A letter about what children will need to bring with them for the journey/Friday afternoon will be sent home on Monday, together with some key info about the visit.

Little Big Shots

Please see a flier below that we have received from the producers of the ITV show Little Big Shots.

Sainsbury’s Vouchers

If you still have any Sainsbury’s vouchers left at home, we would be very grateful for them. Some of the Year 5 boys have been busy counting them over the last couple of weeks and they have audited our PE equipment ready to tell me what they think we need to order with the vouchers!

Letters out this week:

Class 4 trip letter to Cardingmill Valley

Have a good weekend.

Class 2 weekly update

English – This week the children have continued to look at poems. They have been reciting fun poems in groups and writing their own version using rhyming words.

Maths – The children have revisited money this week. They have been adding coins together to make an amount, finding change from 20p (year 1) £1 (year 2) and using number lines to support their working out.

Science – In Science the children were looking at a range of different trees and the specific parts of a tree. They discussed the importance of a trees roots, bark and leaves etc. Then they drew their own tree and labelled it.

Geography – In Geography we learned more about the way seasonal weather in a polar region is different to the weather in the United Kingdom. The children looked closely at the city of Tromso, Norway. They learned about the typical day in Tromso and compared it to their typical day in the UK and wrote diary entries.

Art – The children completed some lovely paintings of a typical beach scene in the Summer. We discussed how dabbing the paper with a paintbrush causes textured effects. The children had a go at this and I was very impressed!

Spellings – To be tested Friday 30th June 2017.

Class 3 Spellings – to be tested on Friday 30th June

Week 33

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have continued our work on diaries this week. The children have spent some time writing a diary entry as Arietty from The Borrowers, describing what it is like to live in the forest school area. They have been practising their proof-reading skills and have had a go at editing and improving their work. Towards the end of the week they were set an independent writing task, to write a diary in character as the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, explaining his side of the story. This was an opportunity for the children to apply and use the features they have learned independently.

Maths: We have continued our work on fractions this week. The children have been adding fractions with the same denominator and some of the Year 4 children have been adding fractions which total more than 1 whole. We have done some mental maths practise this week and the children have completed a test to use and apply what they have learned this year. Although this was quite challenging, they all worked very hard and tried their best.

Science: We were very excited this week to have our first lesson in the Eco-room! The children had great fun demonstrating the function of water within a plant through creating human models. We then moved onto planning an investigation to see if the temperature of a room effects how quickly a plant takes in water. We will be setting this up and carrying it out next week.

Geography: We have continued our work on ‘Settlements’ this week with the children identifying from different pictures the best types of settlements and giving reasons why.

RE: We have continued our work on creation and have read the story of creation from the Bible. The children are now working towards creating some artwork to express one part of creation that amazes them.

Just a little note to say a huge WELL DONE to Class 3 on sports day. You all did so well and your attitude and good sportsmanship was fantastic!

Sports Day Thank You!

Just a quick note (before I miss the email deadline for today) to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Sports Day today. It was an absolutely fantastic day and the staff are so proud of all the children for their effort and attitude. We will upload some photos tomorrow.

Forest School

Just a quick note to make you aware that there will be NO Forest School tomorrow morning as KS2 will be using the school field for Sports Day. The next Forest School sessions is Wednesday 28th June.

The children are welcome to come dressed ready for sports day in the morning and time will be available for the children who wish to get changed at school. A few children have not yet returned their sun cream permission slips, please could these be sent in tomorrow if you’d like us to provide this during the day.

Thank you for your support

Miss Edwards

Gazebos for Sports Day

As warm weather is forecast for Sports Day on Wednesday, please could you let the office know tomorrow morning if you have a gazebo that you are willing to lend us.
