Miss Bellis Leaving

It is with huge sadness that we inform you that Miss Bellis will be leaving us at the end of the summer term. Miss Bellis is going to university in September so we wish her good luck for the future and say thank you on behalf of all the children, staff and governors for all her hard work and commitment to the school over the last four years. She will be greatly missed!

There is a collection in the school office towards a leaving gift, if you would like to make a contribution.  Many thanks.

Please see information below from the producers of the ITV programme Save Money: Good Food. They are looking for families around the UK who would like the opportunity to help reduce their food shopping bill and learn some tasty new recipes.

Transition Day – Thursday 13th July

Next Thursday, all the children will be spending the day in their September classes to coincide with our new entrants’ final taster session and the Year 6 children going to The Corbet School for their visit day. Children should go to their current classes as normal in the morning and they will then go to their ‘new’ class after Open the Book.

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have started a new unit of work on poetry this week. We have read a number of poems and the children were asked to memorise parts of them and perform them to the rest of the class, making sure they used expression when doing so. We have also spent some time spotting patterns within poems and have identified different word types within them – nouns, adjectives, prepositions. We even had a go at improving a poem by adding more of these and changing the ones already there.

Maths: We have spent some time applying our knowledge of fractions to different problems and contexts – which the children were very good at! We have revised how to use number facts to help us multiply multiples of 10 – e.g. 40 x 3 – we would do 4 x 3 and then make it 10 times bigger. The children will be using this next week to help them solve some scaling problems. Some of the Year 4 children have learned how to divide 1 and 2 digit numbers by 10, including decimals.

Science: The children had great fun dissecting a flower this week. They learned the names of the different parts of the flower and their purpose. Next week they will move onto learning about the pollination process.

Geography: We used digital maps this week to compare land use in different areas. The children compared a city, a large town and a small town to see how the land was used in different ways.

D&T: The children have been putting the final touches to their packaging this week.

PE: The children have continued with their tennis lessons this week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Forest School

The children had a lovely morning in Forest School making ‘journey sticks’. They were exploring the site and objects that the children found interesting were wrapped to their stick with string. We found things like pine cones, feathers, leaves with holes in, etc.

FOBS event – revised poster

Please see below a revised version of the poster from FOBS about the end-of-year event. Apologies about the version which was originally emailed out.

Arthog Thank You

Thank you to all the children who went to Arthog for what was a fabulous long weekend. The children’s behaviour was some of the best we have ever experienced and as for their effort and perseverance … they should all feel very proud of themselves for what they achieved. It was genuinely an absolute pleasure to be away with them and they did Bicton proud!

We will upload the rest of the many photos taken, over the next couple of days.

Mrs Walton’s group – Dan, Harry, Luka, Sophie, Dayna, Isabella, Izzy and Toni –  had a full day of water activities with lots of happy faces, as you can see from the photos!
