Home-school Communication

We always remind children to speak up and share any worries they have or to let staff know about anything that happens during the school day that has upset them.  We always address any issues promptly, that may have happened in school, but we can only do this if we have been informed by the child or children involved.

Occasionally children do not let a member of staff know if they have been upset by something and wait until they get home to mention it. If this occurs, it is important that parents speak to a member of staff so that they can deal with what has happened.  Social media is not the place to share concerns about things that have happened in school, as it can exacerbate the problem and cause misunderstandings.

Staff are always happy to communicate with parents about any concerns. The use of home-school link books, emails to school and agreed appointments are all ways of communication that we use and we would ask that our staff are treated with respect and courtesy. Please refer to our Behaviour and Acceptable Use policies. Thank you

Class 2 Weekly update

English: In English this week, green group have been reading the story ‘Jam’ and completing sentences about what they have read. Blue group have been reading the story ‘Chips’ and red and yellow groups have been reading ‘Red Ken’. Once the children have read the story with their partner and heard an adult read it with expression, they are encouraged to talk about the story and answer questions. We then write sentences relating to the stories.

Maths: We have continued with addition this week. The children have been using ten frames to make number bonds to 10 and 20, learned how to count on from a given number to add and looked at patterns to help solve addition sentences. We have also discussed starting with the biggest number and adding on the smallest number to make addition easier.

Science: We had a class discussion about the season we are in at the moment and how we can tell. The children then came up with a list of ideas to suggest what to look out for in Autumn.

History: In History this week, we looked at a range of adjectives to describe toys and sorted them into a Venn diagram. The categories were ‘adjectives to describe an old toy’ e.g. old-fashioned, rusty, chipped, etc and ‘adjectives to describe a new toy’ e.g. shiny, modern, colourful, etc.

Spellings: The children have all been working really hard with their spelling practise and this has been showing in their results. Thank you for your continued support with reading and spelling practise at home. New spellings to be tested on Friday 6th October 2017.

Have a great weekend!

Miss Edwards

A week in Class 1

What a busy week!   We have learned 3 new sounds – n, p and g.   Ellie visited the class on Wednesday to do Music, the children explored different ways to play the drum and make loud and quiet noises.

In Maths we have looked at 2d shapes, made shape pictures, gone on shape hunts and practised counting as high as we can.

Our Nursery rhyme was Rock a bye baby, this linked to our theme of babies this week and people who we love and who are special to us.

In PE the children enjoyed using the balance bikes and have had plenty of outdoor physical development opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their details for Tapestry, passwords have been emailed out, please check your Junk mail as this is where the activation link may be.

Read Write Inc – ‘g’

Today the children looked at the sound ‘g’ . They practised saying this bouncy sound – g,g,g,g, looked a t objects and pictures beginning with the sound.

The children had a go at forming the letter, as they write the letter we say ‘ round the girls face, down her hair and giver her a curl.’

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: The Year 2 children have continued to revise capital letters and full stops this week. The Year 3 children began the week with an adverb activity where they had to make sure the adverb used in a sentence made sense and was in the correct place. We then all spent some time revising the different types of sentences – questions, commands, statements and exclamations and practised punctuating these correctly through playing games and doing some written work.

Maths: This week the Year 2 children have been revising their number bonds to 10 and 20. The Year 3 children have been finding 10 more and 10 less of a 3 digit number. We have all been learning about the equals sign and how it means ‘the same as’ and therefore can be placed in different places in a number sentence and not just at the end – e.g. 20 = 15 + 5 or 19 + 1 = 10 + 10.

Science: The children did some brilliant work this week on describing why a material was suitable for a given purpose. They were using some good adjectives to describe the properties of the different materials.

History: We have started to learn about Christopher Columbus. We learned some facts about his life and then the children spent some time in partners on the BBC Primary History website looking at pictures and playing games linked to Columbus.

RE: We spent some time doing some work on peace in order to prepare for a whole school display. We talked about what peace is, what it means to us and how we can bring it in our everyday lives.

Computing: The children have continued to develop their word processing skills this week by learning how to insert text boxes and images.

French: We have continued our work on greetings with the children learning how to say ‘How are you?’ and how to respond.

PE: The children have continued with their dance and games lessons.

Well done for another hard working week Class 3! Enjoy your weekend!
