Raffle Tickets

To help raise funds for Friends of Bicton School (FOBS) 4 raffle tickets have been sent home to each family today which we would appreciate if you could sell amongst your friends and family for £1 per ticket. Your tickets will be entered in the national prize draw, which will take place on 5^th January 2018, giving you an opportunity to win the prizes detailed in the poster below. 75% from the sale of each ticket will be paid to FOBS helping us raise much-needed funds for the school.

Movies Disco

Homework to be handed in Wednesday 15th November

Homework this week is on verbs as we have been using lots of them in our instruction writing this week. The sheet is stuck in their homework books. Please could you encourage children to bring in homework by Wednesday at the latest so that we can get it marked and new homework stuck in ready for Friday each week. Many thanks.

Class 3 NSPCC PE Lesson

Class 3 completed their NSPCC challenge this week. They decided on their own circuit to complete during a PE lesson – this consisted of ladders, catching, step ups, dribbling a ball etc. They had to make sure they had completed the entire circuit in order to have achieved the challenge. They all did very well! Please can you help your child to collect their sponsorship money and bring it into school next week. Thank you.

Weekly News 10.11.17

Remembrance Day

I just wanted to say well done to all the children who were in Worship on Thursday morning, when we discussed Remembrance Day. We discussed the significance of different things associated with this event and studied images of the ceramic poppies installation at the Tower of London a few years ago. The children were fascinated when I showed them the ceramic poppy that I was fortunate enough to purchase from the Tower of London display. We watched a video clip from the annual Remembrance service at the Royal Albert Hall and, without any prompting whatsoever, the children then observed a 2 minute silence. It was very moving to see their response and made me extremely proud of them.

Cross country results

Well done to the children who took part in the cross country event at The Corbet on Monday after school and thank you to the parents for cheering them on. The perseverance and effort was wonderful to see and we had first places in the Year 4 and Year 6 boys’ events. The team placings after this event puts us in first place overall for Year 4 boys and 3rd place for Year 6 boys, alongside the other primary schools.

Our next event is on Monday 20th November and we would love to see some new faces from Years 3 to 6.

Parents’ Evening – Tuesday 14th November

If you are meeting with your child’s class teacher(s) during the normal school day, please sign in at the office first before going to look at your child’s books; these will be in trays in the corridor outside their class. Teachers are meeting with parents in different areas of the school so they will come to you in the corridor, rather than you trying to locate them!

If your appointment is after school, there is no requirement for you to sign in and teachers will meet with you in the Hall as in previous years. Film Club is still running but will be in one of the classrooms – either Class 1 or the Eco-room (to be confirmed.)

Bags to School

The Bags to School collection will be made on the morning of Tuesday 14th. Thank you if you have already brought bags of old clothes, shoes, etc into school.

Children In Need Friday 17th November – Pyjamas day

Next Friday it is Children In Need day. Children are asked to pay 50p and come to school wearing pyjamas or a onesie – slippers and dressing gowns are optional! We are also hoping to hold a cake sale at break time so any donations of cakes or biscuits (nothing containing nuts please) would be very gratefully received.

Club money – Polite request

Please can all money for clubs be put in envelopes marked clearly with your child’s name and what the money is for. We have a tub of envelopes on the counter at the office for you to use. Thank you.

NSPCC

Thank you if you already have returned the NSPCC sponsor form and sponsorship.

FOBS raffle tickets

On Monday, children will be given a envelope containing raffle tickets from FOBs (1 book of 4 tickets per family.) There is a leaflet in the envelope explaining when the stubs, money and unsold tickets need to be returned by and we thank you in advance for your support.

Class 1 and 2 Nativity

A king is born

The children and staff are very excited that it is that time of year again for the Christmas production!

A letter has been sent home with the part your child will be playing in the production and details of any items of clothing they might need to bring in from home.

We have some costumes in school for the children to use, but would appreciate any that can be provided from home.

If you have any difficulty getting hold of any of this, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Please bring your child’s costume from home in a named carrier bag no later than Monday 4^th of December.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to come and ask us.

Read Write Inc

This week the children have looked at 4 digraphs (2 letters that make one sound)

‘sh’ – When writing it we say – ‘Slither down the snake; down the horse’s head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘ch’ – When writing it we say ‘curl around the caterpillar, then down the horses’ head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘th’ – When writing it we say ‘ ‘Down the tower, across the tower, then down the horse’s head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘qu’ – When writing it we say ‘ round her head, up past her earrings and down her hair, then down and under, up to the top and draw the puddle.’

Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week Blue group have been reading ‘Pip’s Pizza’ and writing about all of the yummy toppings they can have on their favourite pizza. Red group have been reading ‘ I think I want to be a bee’ and writing about what they want to be when they are older. We had lots of lovely suggestions: vets, doctors, teachers, pop stars, etc. Green and Yellow group worked independently writing instructions on ‘how to make a sandwich’ and progressed onto writing instructions for making a puppet.

Maths: We have started looking at division this week. The children have been learning to share given amounts between 2, 5 and 10 and checking that each group are ‘equal’ and ‘fair’ to get the right answer. Some children have recognised that not all numbers can be shared equally.

PE: The children enjoyed their circuits in PE on Monday to raise money for the NSPCC. Please return any sponsor forms once they are completed. Thank you for sending Class 2 children in their PE kits this morning! It really helped with getting to Worship on time.

History: In History this week, the children made posters of toys in different categories to make a class museum. They made posters about moving toys, outdoor toys, building toys, dolls and stuffed animals and puzzles and games.

D & T: In D & T the children made leavers to make a picture move. They read the story Jack and the Beanstalk and made a moving leaver to make Jack climb up the beanstalk.

Spellings: Spellings to be tested on Friday 17th November 2017.
