Class 2 Buddy’s Big Workout

Yesterday afternoon the children in Class 2 completed different challeneges in a circuit with lots of different stations to raise money for the NSPCC. They were doing jumping jacks, skipping, shuttle runs, lunges, etc and worked really hard! They were very energetic and worked well within their groups. Well done Class 2! The children were given their sponsor forms last week, please return any sponsors to the box in Class 2 once they have been collected. Thank you for your support 🙂

Class 4 update

A busy week in Class 4 again since half term.

In English the children have been writing play scripts based on a chapter of Charlotte’s Web.  They enjoyed performing each other’s play scripts in our lesson this morning.

In maths we have been working on multiplication and division, practising times tables and simple division problems.

In History we have looked at different objects and inventions and found out when and where they were invented to create a class time line of inventions.  Next week we will be exploring some Stone Age to Iron Age artefacts from the local library.

In Science we have just begun our new topic on ‘sound.’  We carried out a listening walk around school to try and identify different sounds and where they come from.  We also explored instruments and how they make sounds.

Class 4 Homework to be handed in Wednesday 8th November

Class 4 homework this week is some times table practice sheets which are stuck into their homework books.  We have been working on our 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables in class this week.  Any problems, don’t hesitate to ask.

Start of the week

On Monday, the children in Class 4 began to explore the features of a play script. The children were able to recall features from previous work and could relate to some of the features from having played the role of characters in plays and performances in school. The children worked in small groups on Tuesday, to perform ‘The Meeting’ scene from Chapter 12 of Charlotte’s Web.

In Maths, the children carried out activities relating to doubling and halving. They used the partitioning method to double 3 digit numbers and to halve 3 digit even numbers. Some children revisited and practised the written division method too – they refer to this as the ‘Bus Stop’ method.

The children enjoyed learning the days of the week in French. They were given a word search to do during the lesson and were encouraged to recite the days of the week as they completed this. A ‘Chatterbox’ game was given out for the children to make and play at home – it was nice to see a few children had already had a go at doing this by Tuesday.

During Class Worship, we started to think in depth about ‘Generosity’. We discussed the three main things that God encourages us to generous with – our time, talent and treasures. We put our heads together to think of ways we have all been generous with our time, talent and treasures.

In PE, the class carried out activities involving balancing in different ways and practised the skills in jumping and landing safely – head up, looking forward, jumping upwards instead of forwards, strong body tension and using our ankles, hips and knees as ‘shock absorbers’.

On Tuesday, the class started their new Design and Technology unit of work. The time, the children will be working with levers and linkages to create a product – this will be decided next week. The children used a useful website programme to learn about the different levers and linkages that can be used to enable things to move. Here is the link to the website.

See you on Monday 🙂

Handwriting

Dear Parents/Carers,

I have sent home a copy of our school handwriting patter which we follow in class. This is so that you can help your child to form their letters properly and reinforce how we teach them at school – this will particularly help them with their spelling homework (please see the front of their spelling books for a note about this).

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to pop in and ask.

Many Thanks,

Miss Barratt

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: This week the Year 2’s have been focusing on command sentences. They have learned that these are sentences which tell someone to do something. We have practised saying these, spotting them and writing them.

The Year 3’s have been practising using inverted commas in their writing this week. They have also been thinking about other words they can use for said and applying these to their writing.

Towards the end of the week we started to learn about the coordinating conjunctions ‘and’ ‘but’ and ‘or’ and practised applying these to sentences to join them together.

Maths: The children have continued their work on multiplication this week. The Year 2 children have been practising making arrays with counters, matching pictures of arrays to a written multiplication sum and have begun to draw their own arrays to represent a multiplication problem.

The Year 3 children have revised work on arrays and have begun to apply this to solving different worded problems. They have also been given a wider variety of problem solving activities where they have been expected to explain their answers. We have just moved on today to learning about related multiplication and division facts.

Science/Art: This week we have been learning about waterproof materials through our art work. We have just started the art work this week and will finish it off next week – the children have used wax crayons to create a picture of space and next week they will see what happens when we do the background with watered down paint and cover the whole picture with it…!

RE: We have been revising our understanding of the Christmas Story this week and the children have been reminded of the parts of the story where Joseph has a dream and the part where the wise men come. The children role played the various parts and the rest of the class had to guess the part of the story they were acting out.

History: The children have been learning about Neil Armstrong this week – they have been finding out about his life and learning about why he is famous. This will help us with some very exciting English work next week….

PE: The children have continued with their games lessons this week.

PSHE: The children have been thinking about what makes a good friend.

Well done for working hard this week Class 3!

Class 2 Weekly update

English: This week green group have been reading ‘let’s sing’ and writing some interesting sentences about their story and answering questions. Yellow group have been reading a non-fiction text about ‘puppets’. We then had lots of discussions about making our own puppets and which puppets we like best in the book. Blue and red group have worked independently in English this week, writing instructions. They started with writing instructions about how to make a sandwich and progressed onto writing instructions about how to make a wooden spoon puppet.

Maths: In Maths we have continued to practise counting in twos and then challenged ourselves to count in tens and fives. The children have related this to money and have been counting 2ps, 10ps and 5ps.

Science: The children have been investigating day length in Science this week. We have had lots of lovely discussions about clocks going forwards and backwards and how much daylight we get in different seasons. The children have been explaining how it is now getting dark when they come to school and when it is their dinner time.

RE: In RE the children went on a Winter/Christmas walk. They looked for signs around the school that winter was coming and found lots of lovely things e.g. frost on the ground, seeing their breath, colourful leaves, berries, etc.

Spellings: Spellings to be tested on Friday 10th November 2017.
