Class 1 and 2 Nativity

A king is born

The children and staff are very excited that it is that time of year again for the Christmas production!

A letter has been sent home with the part your child will be playing in the production and details of any items of clothing they might need to bring in from home.

We have some costumes in school for the children to use, but would appreciate any that can be provided from home.

If you have any difficulty getting hold of any of this, please don’t hesitate to let us know.  Please bring your child’s costume from home in a named carrier bag no later than Monday 4th of  December.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to come and ask us.

Read Write Inc

This week the children have looked at 4 digraphs (2 letters that make one sound)

‘sh’ – When writing it we say – ‘Slither down the snake; down the horse’s head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘ch’ – When writing it we say ‘curl around the caterpillar, then down the horses’ head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘th’ – When writing it we say ‘ ‘Down the  tower, across the tower, then down the horse’s head to the hooves and over his back.’

‘qu’ – When writing it we say ‘ round her head, up past her earrings and down her hair, then down and under, up to the top and draw the puddle.’

Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week Blue group have been reading ‘Pip’s Pizza’ and writing about all of the yummy toppings they can have on their favourite pizza. Red group have been reading ‘ I think I want to be a bee’ and writing about what they want to be when they are older. We had lots of lovely suggestions: vets, doctors, teachers, pop stars, etc. Green and Yellow group worked independently writing instructions on ‘how to make a sandwich’ and progressed onto writing instructions for making a puppet.

Maths: We have started looking at division this week. The children have been learning to share given amounts between 2, 5 and 10 and checking that each group are ‘equal’ and ‘fair’ to get the right answer. Some children have recognised that not all numbers can be shared equally.

PE: The children enjoyed their circuits in PE on Monday to raise money for the NSPCC. Please return any sponsor forms once they are completed. Thank you for sending Class 2 children in their PE kits this morning! It really helped with getting to Worship on time.

History: In History this week, the children made posters of toys in different categories to make a class museum. They made posters about moving toys, outdoor toys, building toys, dolls and stuffed animals and puzzles and games.

D & T: In D & T the children made leavers to make a picture move. They read the story Jack and the Beanstalk and made a moving leaver to make Jack climb up the beanstalk.

Spellings: Spellings to be tested on Friday 17th November 2017.

Spellings 10.11.17

Have a good weekend!

Class 3 Weekly News

English: We started off the week with some creative writing where the children were imagining they were astronauts travelling into space. We spent some time watching video clips and discussing what it would be like to go to space, ensuring we were using lots of powerful description to explain our experience. We then spent some time improving our work by choosing a sentence we thought we could edit and improve to sound even better.

For the rest of the week the Year 3 children have been learning what paragraphs are and the Year 2 children have been practising using the conjunctions ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘or’ and ‘so’.

Maths: We have continued our work on multiplication and division.

The Year 2 children have been learning how multiplication is commutative, so when you see an array that is 2 x 4 you can also see 4 x 2. We have spent some time recognising this within pictures and practising writing the sums to show what we can see.

The Year 3 children have been learning about multiplication and the related division facts. They have used arrays to help them find these and then towards the end of the week they have been challenged to use their times table knowledge to help them and therefore work mentally.

Science/Art: The children have really enjoyed carrying out our investigation which we started last week. The children completed their wax crayon drawings and this week were told to cover the whole thing with watered down paint to see what happened. They were good at explaining how ‘the wax is waterproof so acts as a barrier to the watered down paint, making it sit on top instead of sinking in. ‘

History: The children were given a scenario to imagine they were explorers going on an expedition. They had to choose the items they would take with them and explain why they had chosen them. This will link into next week’s work on looking at the expeditions of Columbus and Armstrong.

RE: The children have continued with our incarnation unit and have been deepening their understanding of the different characters within the story, the part they played and why they are important.

PE: The children completed their NSPCC challenge this week (photos to follow) and had a football lesson too. Please can children ensure they are collecting sponsorship over the weekend. Thank you!

Well done for another great week Class 3!

This week, we have been getting to grips with being able to respond quickly and accurately to mental arithmetic questions – particularly times tables. We have been playing ‘Hit the Button‘ which is a quick fire game against the clock. It would be great if your child could have a go at this at home and keep learning their times tables.

We have also been looking at the features of instruction texts. We have carried out activities involving following, reading and responding to verbal and written instructions. The features of instruction texts have been looked at closely and the children will get chance to write their own set of instructions following a baking session tomorrow!

In Class Worship, we discussed ‘Attitude of Gratitude’. The children thought of ways that they have ever shown or experienced gratitude in return for being generous.

In Design and Technology, we made further progress with investigating and evaluating the effectiveness of a variety of levers and linkages. We drew diagrams of products featuring levers and labelled and commented on the design and mechanism. We will move onto developing ideas for our own product using levers.

Missing Purse

I am sorry to have to inform you that Lily in Class 4 has had her purse taken from her locker at some point this afternoon (Tuesday.)  It is a small green canvas purse with a yellow L on it and it had £1.20 inside in 20p pieces for her milkshake.

I have already spoken to several Class 4 parents or grandparents in the last hour and I am very grateful for your support in this matter.  I am still working my way through the Class 4 register but, in the meantime, please could I ask you to check your child’s bag with them just in case they have brought the purse home in error.  We take matters like this very seriously and would ask that you speak to your child just in case they think they may know who may have taken the purse and money.

This has been copied to Class 5 parents, as the children share the same cloakroom.  If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak to me and I thank you again for your support.

Mrs Johnson

Class 2 School Council

Class 2 voted for their School Council yesterday afternoon and it was lovely to see the majority of the class putting their name forward to be elected. They each took a slip of paper and voted for one boy and one girl who they wanted to represent Class 2. Sam and Sammy were delighted to be voted as School Council! Well done!

Class 2 Tennis

Just a quick note to ask if Class 2 children could come into school on Friday mornings, in their PE kit ready for Tennis. They can then bring their school uniform with them to change back into after the lessons. This will allow the children to come in as usual and we can all make it down to worship on time 🙂

Mr Crefield sometimes take the children out onto the playground if the weather is dry so please could they wear something warm. Thank you.
