Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week we have started our new book, ‘Not Now, Bernard!’ The children have acted out the story and today have written character descriptions. Some children thought of adjectives to describe each character and made a mind map of their ideas, some have written sentences about their chosen character and some children have used sub-headings to sort their descriptions e.g. what they look like, their personality and behaviour.

Maths: The children have been introduced to position and direction this week. We have discussed lots of vocabulary to describe turns e.g. quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn and whole turn. We have been describing where objects are using the vocabulary, above, below, in the middle, left, right, up and down.

Science: We have thought about Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores this week in Science and learned about the different animals that fall into each category.

PE: We have been practising hard for Sports Day in PE. We have been practising running races, egg and spoon race, bean bag race and the sack race.

Handwriting: We do a lot of handwriting practise in Class 2 and most children have now become confident in using leaders and descenders in their everyday writing. Some children are now joining their writing!

Spellings: To be tested Friday 15th June 2018.

Spellings 8.6.18

Phonics Screening: Year 1 children will be doing their phonics screening next week. Please encourage your children to practise their sounding out and blending in preparation for this and any reading during the weekend would be greatly appreciated!

Have a good weekend!

Concord College Choir Competition

Dear Parents/Carers of children involved in the Concord College Choir Competition,

Please can you encourage your child to go onto the choir page of the school website and use the backing tracks to practise the songs we are learning for the competition. The competition is only 2 weeks away and we want to make sure the children are ready and confident.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Barratt

Class 3 Weekly Update

English: We have moved onto persuasive writing this week. We have watched some TV adverts to identify the persuasive language and features used within them. The children have also designed their own chocolate bar or sweet for Willy Wonka with the intention of creating an advert for it at a later date.

Maths: We have continued with multiplication this week. The Year 2’s have been completing a variety of problems and reasoning activities and the Year 3’s have been continuing to develop their understanding of the column method for multiplication. Towards the end of the week we have been revising how to double and halve two and three digit numbers by partitioning.

Science: We have begun our new topic on light this week. We have started by learning what a light source and identifying examples of some.

History/Art: The children have been using papier-mache to make a Roman helmet.

PE: The children have been enjoying their swimming and tennis lessons this week. The Year 2 children have also spent some time practising for sports day.

Well done for a great first week back Class 3!

Homework reminder – I gave out the homework on Monday that was originally intended for half term. This is due in on Monday 11th June. Please see the earlier post for further details.

A surprise visitor in Class 2!

This morning the children came back from Worship and found our classroom in such a mess! After a lot of detective work and thinking it might have been a crocodile, dragon or an owl, the children decided it must have been the monster from our new class story, ‘Not Now, Bernard!’ We then listened to the story and acted it out in small groups.

Maths

Class 1 have been using 10 frames to make 2 digit numbers.
