If you have any questions, and are unable to attend, please do not hesitate to speak to me. Thank you.

Gardening Day – Thank You

Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to our gardening day on Saturday. We had a really productive day and got lots of jobs done in the poly tunnel and the flower beds, as well as a general tidy up. Thanks as always to Barbie for providing refreshments throughout the day.

Class 4 Visit to Secret Hills

The children have all been told but, just in case the message did not reach you, they need to wear their school t-shirt and school sweatshirt/cardigan for their trip on Monday.  They may wear leggings/jogging bottoms/tracksuit bottoms etc.

Thank you

Class 5 weekly update

English

This week children have written narrative descriptions of Willie’s journey home to London. Their task was to recount the journey using present tense, which was quite a challenge, but their finished work was excellent. They are now desperate to read on to find out what happens once Willie is reunited with his Mum!

Maths

We started a new unit on statistics with our main focus this week on line graphs. Children have interpreted line graphs in a range of different contexts and created their own line graphs using given data. We will continue with our work on line graphs next week.

Science

The whole class have now shared their half-term homework on Sir Isaac Newton and we have built on their research by using different-shaped prisms to refract light in and around the classroom.

History

Whilst the Year 5s were enjoying the Languages Day at The Corbet on Friday, Year 6s continued to work on their Dig For Victory – inspired posters.

Class 5 Visit to the Imperial War Museum

Just a reminder that it is our visit to the Imperial War Museum at Manchester on Wednesday 20th which we are all very excited about!

Have  a lovely weekend.

Main gate – vehicular access only

Please can we remind parents and other adults walking children to school/nursery that the main wooden gate should only be used for vehicular access. We ask that pedestrians use the smaller gate at the crossing. This is for everyone’s safety – both pedestrians and drivers – and we thank you in advance for adhering to these safety procedures.

September classing arrangements – whole school

Thank you

Class 4 weekly update

English – We have been focussing on the character Zeus in our class novel – the king of the Greek gods!  The children started by creating mind maps to sort facts, opinions and key characteristic of Zeus using evidence in the story to support their ideas.  Then they ordered some of the key events of his life on a timeline and added descriptive phrases to this.  They used the information gathered to draft, edit/improve and publish a biography about Zeus.  Some of the key features they focussed on were ensuring they wrote in past tense, use of third person, ordering events in chronological order, using time connectives, paragraphs, emotive language and quotes.

Maths – Year 4 children have been looking at time this week and solving problems involving hours/minutes/seconds, years/months/weeks and using analogue to digital time (12 hour and 24 hour).  Year 5’s have been continuing to solve problems about properties of shapes – calculating lengths and angles in shapes, regular and irregular polygons and reasoning about 3D shapes.

Topic – They have been comparing schooling in Ancient Athens with schooling in modern Britain.  They researched some information and came up with lots in interesting facts and comparisons.

RE – They used the timeline of the Bible (the ‘frieze’) and found the events of creation, God and the ‘Fall’ through the images shown.  Then they listened to the story of Adam and Eve and discussed the hidden meaning/message in the story – temptation!  Then they worked in groups to take on the roles of the man, woman, snake and God with one person interviewing each character.  They thought very hard to think of interesting questions and answering in role.

Spellings – To be tested on Friday 22nd June.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Class 2 Weekly Update

English: This week we have been thinking about adding suffixes ‘s’ and ‘es’ to the end of words to change things from singular to plural and adding the prefix ‘un’ to change the meaning of adjectives e.g. kind to unkind. Thursday and Friday we focused on ‘Not Now, Bernard’. The children  have written great book reviews about our class story and thought about who they would recommend the story to and also had time to write questions to the monster in the story, asking things they’d like to find out e.g. why did he make a mess in class 2? Why did he eat Bernard? Etc.

Maths:  We have been looking at measurement – money this week. We have been learning to recognise coins and identify the differences between each coin, e.g. some are round, bronze, silver, big, small, etc. The children have been problem solving and reasoning e.g. Laura thinks she has 17p in her purse. Is she correct? Explain how you know.

Science: The children really enjoyed planting their beans on Tuesday and then confidently wrote a set of instructions on how to plant a bean.

History: The children were looking at seaside photographs in their book and completed the senses grid with how the photograph makes them feel. They thought about what they would see, hear, smell, taste and touch if they were there.

PE: We have continued to practise our athletic skills, ready for Sports Day in a few weeks.

Phonics Screening: The children have all completed their screening test this week and should all be really proud of themselves for working so hard! The children’s results will be in their reports at the end of the year as we do not find out the pass mark for a few weeks. Thank you for all of your support with reading and revising at home.

Well done Class 2!

Spellings: To be tested Friday 22nd June 2018.
