Weekly News 13.05.22

Hello everyone,

There are a few bits of information which I need everyone to read this week please and I thank you in advance for doing so.

Well done to our amazing Year 6s for their hard work and perseverance this week when completing their SATs, and a big thank you to the rest of the school for making sure they were as quiet as possible!

Parking on Bicton Lane

Please do not park on the yellow zig zag lines on Bicton Lane or on/near the pedestrian crossing, as this makes crossing the road very dangerous to pedestrians and is a hazard to other vehicle users. We thank you in advance for adhering to this request and keeping the families coming to and from our school safe.

Messages for class teachers

If your child is absent from school, arriving late/leaving early due to a hospital or emergency medical/dentistry appointment, or is being collected by another adult, please inform the school office or leave an answerphone message.

Messages sent to teachers via Class Dojo may not be seen before the start of the school day and will not be picked up if teachers are absent due to illness, meaning the school office will not be aware of any messages and will not know if and why a child is absent. Thank you for your support with this.

PE kit – reminder

Please ensure that your child wears the correct PE kit for their PE days, as follows:

  • Plain blue or white t-shirt or school logo PE t-shirt (No other t-shirts should be worn.)
  • Plain black or navy shorts / jogging bottoms / leggings (Football kit should not be worn.)
  • School sweatshirt  or a plain royal blue or navy sweatshirt / hoodie
  • Pumps / trainers

Weekly News 06.05.22

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had a good week – we have had another lovely week in school!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – Chickenpox

We have had a few cases of chickenpox in Early Years over the the last few weeks. We have a child in school who is immunosuppressed and whose health can be seriously affected by chickenpox so it is vital that you inform us straightaway if you find your child has chickenpox. Thank you for your support with this.

More information on what to look out for can be found on the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chickenpox/

Good luck Year 6s

As some of you may be aware, Year 6 children will be completing their SATs next week. They have worked extremely hard in preparation for this and we are very proud of each and every one of them! Thank you Year 6 parents for all the support you have given your child.

Upcoming roadworks – road closure near Bicton Lane

You may have noticed signs on Holyhead Road and Calcott Lane about roadworks taking place from 16 – 20 May 2022.  The map below shows you the location of the works and the planned diversion.

Forest Church Sunday 8th May

Dear Friends,

We are really looking forward to seeing you at Forest Church this coming Sunday! The weather forecast (currently) is good, so we are hoping for a lovely afternoon in nature. The site is full of places for children and adults to explore and play. For the brave (and child-sized), there may well be a go on the zip-wire to finish the afternoon!

We will provide a toilet-tent and a marquee, should the weather be damp. If you would like to sit, please bring with you a folding garden chair or picnic rug. There’s also a fishing pool. Though we won’t be fishing, I’ll bring a few nets so that we can have a little look for minibeasts. The ground is uneven in places, and wonderfully biodiverse (which is a subtle way of saying there are nettles), so please wear suitable clothes – we recommend long trousers and wellington/walking boots. We absolutely do not intend for anyone to go in the pond, but if you or someone you look after is prone to accidentally tipping in (!), bring a change of clothes just in case. Do come with your own picnic and a mug as hot drinks will be provided. It’s such a pretty site that if the weather is dry, nobody will want to rush home…

Caregivers are responsible for their children at all times; we are there at our own risk, and we are on private land. I will bring a First-Aid Kit and the Risk Assessment will be available to look at.

 The Plan

We will be flexible, depending on who comes along, and we also want to keep things fairly informal. As we are still in the Easter season, the theme will be ‘new life’. Here is an outline of the afternoon:

3pm- Opening prayer and welcome from Hannah, with an introduction from Tricia Jones.

3.15-3.45pm- Activities, which will include the option of a nature-spotting quiz, looking for minibeasts, sketching and exploring.

3.45pm- A worship service outside.

4pm- Picnic Time.

Directions

The woodland (and pond) we are going to visit is on the road to Shrawardine (by kind permission of Mr Anthony Hill). Just after you pass the sign for Shrawardine (whether you’ve come from Montford or taken the ‘Shrawardine’ turning off the A5), you will see a big green potato store on your right (just after the right hand lane to Ensdon). Cars can be parked on the hard standing in front of the store (by kind permission of Mr Adrian Bright). Take care crossing the road and go through the two sets of metal farm gates opposite the store. There is a short path down to the site, so a little walking will be required.

See you there!

Easter Blessings,

Hannah x

Plant detectives

Birch class really showed off their super knowledge about plants, when they went on a plant hunt around the school grounds this week. They had to look closely, as some of the plants looked very similar at first and a few were tricky to find, but they now know their ceanothus from their rosemary and their camellia buds from apple blossom!

They described and compared different plants and came up with different questions about plants which they want to find out about this term. Next week we are going to plant some of our Superbloom seeds. If you have any bedding plants or perennials spare over the coming weeks, we would love to take them off your hands!

Weekly News 08.04.22

Hello everyone,

On behalf of all our staff and governors, I would like to say a very heartfelt thank you for all your support this term. It has been a challenging few weeks since February half-term, with a steep rise in pupil and staff absence, but our school community have pulled together as always. Thank you!

We return to school on Monday 25th April. Wherever possible, please can routine appointments – dental and optician – be arranged during school holidays or after school to try to limit the time children are absent from school. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

News from Severn Loop

I hope you are all well. It is Forest Church this coming Sunday (Leaton Forest, 3pm) – all are welcome! The instructions are below…

What to bring                                                                                                                                                      Do wrap up warm and bring wellies/walking boots. We are really grateful to Charles Bridgeman and the Leaton Forest team for their hospitality. As always, there will be the opportunity to do some exploring, go for a walk through the Christmas Tree plantations and a craft or two for those who are so inclined…. and of course, the donkey will be with us! Dogs on leads are welcome.

Please bring your own picnic. We will eat in the barn, where there will be a kettle to make a hot drink. I’ll bring tea bags etc, and have ten mugs- so do bring your own if you would like to.

The Plan

We will be flexible, depending on who comes along, and we also want to keep things fairly informal. Here is an outline of the afternoon:

3pm- Opening prayer and welcome from Hannah, with an introduction from Charles Bridgeman (Leaton Knolls Estate).

3.15-3.45pm- Activities, which will include the option of a tour/ walk, some time enjoying the company of the donkey and crafts (in and around the barn).

3.45pm- A worship service outside, with a Palm Sunday theme.

4pm- Picnic Time.

Directions

If you’ve ever bought a Christmas Tree from Leaton Forest, then you know what to do! We will meet on the hard standing outside the barn where the trees are paid for. If not…

Heading out from Shrewsbury take the Baschurch/ Berwick Road out of town (B5067)- up past the West-Mid Showground. Keep going for 3.5 miles (ish). Just after the church appears on the right, turn left into Leaton Forest (it is signposted for Christmas Trees). Follow the winding track round until you reach the car park. We will meet there. The postcode is SY4 3AP.

Caregivers are responsible for their children at all times, and we are there at our own risk. I will bring a First-Aid Kit and the Risk Assessment will be available to look at. We do have cover if it’s rainy- so please don’t be put off by the weather!

Updated COVID guidance with effect from April 1st

‘Should my child still go to their childcare or education setting if they test positive for Covid?

No. From 1 April, anyone with a positive COVID-19 test result will be advised to try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for five days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be three days. This is 3 days after the day of the test.

Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people, where they can. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend.

Spring Term Parent Meetings

The booking system for our spring term parent meetings will go live on the school website this evening. The meetings will be held over the telephone this term, in line with the guidance received from Public Health and the high number of Covid cases within our school community.

Appointments for Willow class can be made via Mrs Bowes and not on the school website.

Hello everyone,

I hope this weekly news finds you well.

We have continued to see Covid cases across the school this week and we are grateful to everyone who has carried our regular testing on their child. This has helped identify further cases and hopefully helped reduce the risk of transsmission.
