Message from Maple Class

Maple class have asked me to share this message with parents.
The way the ‘Give as you Live’ scheme works is you simply sign up to it. You go on to a website via Shrewsbury Ark’s website and it will automatically donate a percentage of your shop purchase to the charity. All you need to do is simply buy as you usually would and a percentage is donated to the charity.
This is linked to the Shrewsbury Ark charity which we are raising money for with our 5000km.

Friday 10th Important Information

Thank you for all your support and understanding today.

After clearing the paths and the car park entrance for the start of the day, the weather and the road conditions deteriorated rapidly once children were in school. Closing the school during the day is never an easy decision to make so your quick response in coming to collect your child/children was very much appreciated.

At this moment in time, the plan is for school and nursery to be open tomorrow. However, I will continue to monitor the weather closely and assess the safety of the site and local roads as early as possible tomorrow morning.

If the decision is taken to close before the start of the day, it will be broadcast on Radio Shropshire and published on Shropshire Council’s website, as well as on the front page of our school website, and on Class Dojo / Tapestry.

Easter Holiday Camps

Passmaster – the company who deliver our after-school football club – are running a holiday club at Mount Pleasant Primary and a football camp at London Road, in the Easter holidays. Please see more information below.
They also run a HAF programme (FREE holiday, food, activity programme, T&Cs apply) alongside their paid-for provision.

Weekly News 03.03.23

Hi everyone,

We’ve had a very busy first week back and it was wonderful to see children in their outfits / pyjamas for World Book Day. They all seemed to enjoy the visit from a local author – Dunkle Deed.

Well done to all the children who won prizes for their costumes, extreme reading locations or book character wood slices, examples of which you can see in the gallery below.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Scholastic Book Fair; this has helped us raise much-needed commission to spend on books for our school library. The Book Fair will be open again after school on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th.

Welcome Mr Harris!

We have welcomed Mr Harris to our school this week – our new Rowan teacher – and he has enjoyed getting to know Rowan children and parents.

Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal

Thank you again for your donations towards our Turkey-Syria fundraising day. Our JustGiving total stands at £354 which is an amazing effort!

Shropshire Star Cash for Schools

The TOKEN COLLECT stage is now underway, with School tokens appearing in the Shropshire Star every day until Saturday March 25, 2023. 

You can pick up a copy of the Shropshire Star at your local retailer or supermarket.

Reminders

Tuesday 7th March – Vision screening for Reception children. If you do not want your child to take part, you MUST return the letter to opt out.

If you want your Year 5/6 child to take part in the Arthog residential visit (Friday 16th to Sunday 18th June 2023) it can be booked on sQuid. A deposit can be paid now to secure your child’s place.

Tree Planting Afternoon

Just before half-term, Maple class spent an afternoon planting apple tree saplings with members of our community.

We had the most wonderful afternoon planting some apple trees in an orchard in Bicton village. Children worked hard to dig the holes, plant the trees, and then walked to the nearby stream to collect water for the tree’s first drink!

During the dig, they had a worm search and counted how many worms there were in every hole. The children really enjoyed searching the soil and found some lovely other insects too.
We all look forward to returning to the orchard, to see how all of the trees are getting along, soon!

We have been informed of a case of threadworms in school. If you find that your child is also affected, information can be found on the NHS website on how to administer treatment.

News from Severn Loop

Dear Friends,
Please see above this month’s Loop which contains some good news! 
Our next Forest Church will be on 2nd April (Palm Sunday), 3pm at Shrawardine. We will be making Easter Gardens and I’ll send more details nearer the time. 
 
Finally, do note that there are no services at Albrighton during March – we very much hope that all will be well by April.

Fairtrade Visit to the Coop

To mark the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, a group of children visited the Bicton Heath Coop. They learnt about the benefits of Fairtrade, went on a treasure hunt around the store and even got to sample several Coop Fairtrade products. Unsurprisingly, the white chocolate and the chocolate cookies seemed to be the most well-liked products!
