Class 6 at the zoo!

We had a really enjoyable day at Chester Zoo. Class 6 were a pleasure to spend the day with and we all really enjoyed getting close to so many rare animals.

Class 6 update

English

This week the children have been writing diary entries as a character from our novel study. They have had to focus on showing the feelings and emotions of the character in their writing.

Maths

We have begun work on fractions this week. We have started by looking at how to simplify fractions using the highest common factors.

Geography

We have begun work on the next part of our topic on mountains today. We explored what the children know about mountains already. The children then researched the 5 different types of mountain and how they are formed.

Science

This week the children have been given a challenge to choose a scientist they feel deserves to go on the new £50 note. The person they choose has to have contributed to the field of science, no longer be alive and have shaped the way we live in the UK.

A huge well done!

On behalf of all the staff and adults who kindly accompanied us on our whole-school visit to Chester Zoo on Thursday, I would like to say a huge well done to all the children for their outstanding behaviour and for being such good company all day. We had the most wonderful day and the children’s comments (and many of the animals’ antics) kept us all entertained!

There are far too many anecdotes to mention but one in particular made me smile. After counting my group of children yet again, I said, “You keep moving – you’re everywhere.” Thea replied, “We’re children – that’s what we do!” 🙂

FOBS writing competition

Thank you for the entries received so far for the FOBS Planet Superheroes writing competition. There is still time for your child to enter if they wish, before all the entries are delivered to the Library next week for judging. Remember it is only £2 per entry and there are some fantastic prizes to be won.

Children In Need

Next Friday 16th November, it is Children In Need day and we are asking all children to pay £1 (or £2 per family if 3 children) to come to school in non-uniform. We would love to see everyone wearing something spotty, linked to Children In Need Spotacular, or they can come dressed as a hero/heroine of their choice to coincide with our Planet Superheroes writing compeition. We would also like to hold a cake sale at morning break to raise more funds for Children In Need so if you are able to donate any cakes or biscuits we would be very grateful.

Half-term news

Harvest Assembly – Thank You

On behalf of all the staff and children, thank you to everyone who was able to join us at our Harvest Celebration Assembly last Thursday. We are sure you will agree, the children performed fantastically and it was a wonderful end to a very busy half-term. Thank you for all of your Harvest donations which will benefit many people in the Shrewsbury area.

Chester Zoo Trip

If you have not already done so, please can all outstanding permission letters and monies be returned on Monday 5th November. Thank you. A reminder will be sent home next week regarding our visit but, in the meantime, all children must wear school uniform with sensible footwear and they will need to bring their packed lunch and drink(s) in a rucksack or bag which they can wear on their back/across them. We will return at 4:30 pm and we have arranged for the bus companies who normally transport children home after school to collect from school at this later time on our return. (A separate letter will be sent home on Monday to those children concerned.)

FOBS Christmas Cards

Please can any remaining Christmas card designs be returned to the school office on Monday 5th November. Thank you.

Poppies

Poppies and other British Legion merchandise (pencils, rulers, rubbers, etc.) will be on sale at the school office when we return to school next week.

Special Bonanza Menu – Friday 9th November

Next Friday, the school kitchen will be serving a special Bonfire Night menu of:

Hot dogs
Baked potatoes
BBQ chicken wraps

Weekly News 19.10.18

Harvest celebration assembly

We are looking forward to our Harvest Celebration Assembly next Thursday, where we will celebrate children’s achievements this term. Please can we ask that you park at the Village Hall, once the school car park is full, and do not park on Bicton Lane where it may cause an obstruction. We hope you will be able to join us.

Wine and cheese evening – Grand total

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the FOBS’ wine and cheese evening. We raised £675 which is a fantastic amount and these much-needed funds will go towards developing our pastoral support room.

Chester Zoo

Thank you for returning the permission slip and payment for our visit to Chester Zoo. If you have not yet done so, please can you return it by Thursday 25th October as we need to arrange staffing before half term for any children not taking part in the visit.

Parent meetings

Just a reminder that we are holding our autumn term parent meetings next Tuesday. All meetings will be held in the school hall and children’s books will be out ready for you to look at (in their trays) prior to you speaking to your child’s teacher(s.) Trays will either be in the main corridor (for meetings up until 3:30) or in their classrooms. Thank you.

Film Club Tuesday 23rd

Due to parent meetings being held in the school hall next week, Film Club will be held in Nursery.

Special menu Thursday 25th October

Next Thursday, the school kitchen will be serving a special lunch of pizza, pasta and a salad bar, with a cookie or muffin for dessert.

Half-term activities

Please find attached some information below about sporting activities taking place this October half term in the Shrewsbury area: Rugby Camp and Salop Survival School.
