Parents Evening
Thank you for all your support and the kind comments received at Parents Evening this week.  If you were unable to meet with your child’s class teacher, they are happy to meet with you when we return after the half-term break.
Food Bank Thank You
Thank you for all the donations for the Food Bank.  The donations were collected this morning by Karen, Laura and Clive and a group of children will be visiting the Food Bank after half-term.
London Marathon 2017
Friends of Bicton School have been incredibly lucky and have been awarded one ‘Golden Bond’ charity place for someone to represent us at the London Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 23rd April 2017.
We would like to invite interested parents, carers, staff and former students (aged 18 and over) to apply to take part and commit to raising a minimum of £800 in sponsorship for FOBS.
The closing date for applications is Monday 28th November and we will notify you as soon as possible after this date if you have been successful.
We will support you during your training and with any fundraising events you may choose to hold.
Bicton School is incredibly grateful for all the support that FOBS provides, which, in the past, has helped to pay for computers, sports equipment, school trips and library books.
Please speak to the office for an application form or contact Francesca Hutcheson by email francescahutcheson@yahoo.co.uk for more information.
Thank you!

Safety alert

Following the attempted abduction last week, we received the following email this afternoon (Thursday) from the Local Authority:

Further to the incident that occurred in the Weston Rhyn area last week, a similar suspicious incident occurred in Oswestry on Tuesday this week.

Our advice to schools is the same and our Crime Prevention Officer suggests some stranger-danger guidance in assemblies and to consider informing parents and advise pupils and students not to walk to/from school alone.

We would like to assure parents and guardians that we have spoken to all children about stranger awareness and keeping themselves safe but if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.

Operation Christmas Child – Shoeboxes

We are taking part in the Shoebox Appeal again this year and children will be bringing home a leaflet with all the information this week. This is completely voluntary but in previous years we have always found that the children are keen to take part. Filled shoeboxes can be left at the main office and need to be returned to school by Monday 14th November. Thank you in advance for your support.

Attempted abduction

We received the following information today from the Local Authority.

“There has been a recent attempted abduction of a pupil walking home from school in the Weston Rhyn area.  The police are involved.

Our Crime Prevention Officer, Ian Bartlett suggests some stranger-danger guidance in assemblies and to consider informing parents and advise pupils and students not to walk to/from school alone.”

We have spoken to all the children in each class this afternoon about stranger-danger. We discussed not running off from the adult/older child who they are walking with and reminded them not to speak to anyone who is a stranger to them.  We also discussed what to do if anyone approaches them and reminded them that they should tell an adult if they ever see someone or something which makes them feel unsafe.

If you have any concerns about the above, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Parking

A letter has been sent home with children today (or they will bring it home on Monday) with a reminder that there is no parking on the car park after school other than after 5:00 on Tuesday.  This is to ensure children’s and adults’ safety.

Food Bank Donations

This Harvest time we are collecting for the Barnabas Food Bank.  Karen from the Food Bank visited school this morning with Clive and Laura from the Coop and the children were all very enthusiastic in their willingness to fill the box in the main entrance.  The Coop have offered to match the donations brought into school!

Cancelled Clubs

Please remember that there are NO CLUBS on Tuesday or Thursday next week because of Parents Evening  and there is no football club on Wednesday because of a tournament.

Halloween Disco

We look forward to seeing you all at the FOBs disco on Friday 21st.

Have a good weekend.
