Children In Need

Well done to everyone for such a fabulous effort today with their hero or spotty costumes. Thank you also for all the donations of cakes and biscuits. We raised £254.20 which is an amazing total!

FOBS Writing Competition

Hayley from Shrewsbury Library visited this morning to announce the winners and runners up of the Planet Superheroes writing competition. She explained how she and her colleagues were very impressed with all the entries when they judged them last week and all entries will be going up on display in the Library in the next couple of weeks. Thank you to Karen and Barbie for coming along to present the prizes this morning and for all their hard work in arranging the competition.

A big well done to the winners in each class: Benji, Cerys, Matilda, Ione, Charlie and Ffion. Well done also to the runners up: Aston, Harry S, Charlie B, Sophie and Tommy.

English

The children enjoyed writing their own ideas for the end of a chapter in our novel study this week.  We read up to a dramatic part of the story and then stopped.  The children had to predict what they thought would happen next and write it in the style of the author.

Maths

We have continued our work on fractions looking at ordering and comparing them by converting them all to the same common denominator.

Science

The children finished their work on who they think should be on the new £50 note.

Geography

The children continued researching and describing the different types of mountains and how they are formed.

English

This week the children have been writing diary entries as a character from our novel study.  They have had to focus on showing the feelings and emotions of the character in their writing.

Maths

We have begun work on fractions this week.  We have started by looking at how to simplify fractions using the highest common factors.

Geography

We have begun work on the next part of our topic on mountains today.  We explored what the children know about mountains already.  The children then researched the 5 different types of mountain and how they are formed.

Science

This week the children have been given a challenge to choose a scientist they feel deserves to go on the new £50 note.  The person they choose has to have contributed to the field of science, no longer be alive and have shaped the way we live in the UK.

A huge well done!

On behalf of all the staff and adults who kindly accompanied us on our whole-school visit to Chester Zoo on Thursday, I would like to say a huge well done to all the children for their outstanding behaviour and for being such good company all day. We had the most wonderful day and the children’s comments (and many of the animals’ antics) kept us all entertained!

There are far too many anecdotes to mention but one in particular made me smile. After counting my group of children yet again, I said, “You keep moving – you’re everywhere.” Thea replied, “We’re children – that’s what we do!” 🙂

FOBS writing competition 

Thank you for the entries received so far for the FOBS Planet Superheroes writing competition. There is still time for your child to enter if they wish, before all the entries are delivered to the Library next week for judging. Remember it is only £2 per entry and there are some fantastic prizes to be won.

Children In Need

Next Friday 16th November, it is Children In Need day and we are asking all children to pay £1 (or £2 per family if 3 children) to come to school in non-uniform. We would love to see everyone wearing something spotty, linked to Children In Need Spotacular, or they can come dressed as a hero/heroine of their choice to coincide with our Planet Superheroes writing compeition. We would also like to hold a cake sale at morning break to raise more funds for Children In Need so if you are able to donate any cakes or biscuits we would be very grateful.
