School Library Launch

Our new school library has been launched this week and our children have been very excited about spending time in there choosing books from what is now a vast selection! Thank you to everyone who donated books last term and also during the past couple of weeks.

From Monday 30th September, the library will be open on Mondays and Thursdays after school until 4:00 p.m. A group of parent volunteers will be on hand to help children choose and borrow books and we look forward to developing this over the coming months.

Weekly Spellings

We have reviewed the impact of children learning spellings by rote and them being given a list of words to learn each week for their spelling tests. In order to equip children in how to deal with spelling unfamiliar words, we have changed how we are teaching spellings across Classes 3 to 5.

Children will be bringing home a spelling menu / spelling activities list, which they are using in school, and they may want to use some of these ideas at home to practise their weekly spelling pattern. The weekly spelling pattern for each class will be uploaded to the website on Monday mornings and children will be tested on examples of words, that use this pattern, on Friday mornings.

Aldi Get Set stickers

We are collecting Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh stickers so if you shop at Aldi, or you know of friends or family who do, we would be really grateful for any stickers towards our collection. Thank you!

School houses

Year 6s did the first count of house points this morning. A big congratulations goes to Darwin, who had the most points awarded to them this week!

Home-link books

If your child is staying to after-school clubs or going home with another adult, we must be informed before the end of the school day. This can be written in your child’s home-link book, staff can be informed at the start of the day or you can phone school during the day to let us know. As part of our safeguarding procedures, we do not allow children to go home with other parents/adults unless we have been notified in advance.

Appointments

Although staff always strive to make themselves available to you, when you need to discuss something regarding your child, please can we ask that you make an appointment wherever possible. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

Just a reminder that all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to free school lunches as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.  Our current menu will be sent home in the children’s book bags next week and this is also available on our school website.

Parent survey- correct email!

Many apologies but yesterday’s email about the parent survey should have asked if you could spare ‘a couple of minutes’ to complete it not ‘a couple of parents!’

We would be really grateful if you could complete the online survey below. The outcomes of the survey will support our staff and governors in our school improvement planning and we thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey.

School Uniform

Please could we request that all items of school uniform, including coats, footwear and PE kit, are labelled with your child’s name to avoid items being mislaid.  Just a gentle reminder as well that trainers or pumps are not permitted as school shoes. Thank you.
