URGENT SURVEY for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6

We now have more guidance about what we will be expected to do from June 1st to enable a phased return for pupils to school. We know that we have been asked to open the school for Nursery, Reception, Year one and Year 6 to begin with but these year groups will not all start together on 1st June – these children may well have to attend some days and not others to allow us to keep numbers low.
As you can imagine, we have significant work to do regarding logistics, timetabling, staffing and risk assessments. Some of these measures will include: small numbers of children in classes, staggered start and finish times, using different members of staff and classrooms to space the children out.  Children of key workers will still be cared for in school alongside these year groups.

We urgently need to know whether parents of Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 intend to send their children back to school from 1st June or whether they feel it is unsafe to do so due to circumstances at home or school. Please complete the survey below to help us in our planning.

Phased reopening survey

Your responses, and the guidance we are awaiting from Shropshire Council, will support us in making a firmer plan and we will share this with you as soon as we can. Thank you for your support.

*Important News – 11.05.20*

Good afternoon everyone,
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening, we are sure that you have many questions, as we do, that you would like clarifying.
We have not yet received any information to support us with this new plan to start a phased return for children in some year groups.   We expect to receive guidance from the Department for Education and the Local Authority very soon.
Please be assured that the safety of our children, staff and school community is our key priority. We will only begin a phased return when we feel it is safe to do so and following an extensive risk assessment process.
As always, we will keep you updated but, for now, please do not worry. We will continue to provide home learning for our children, keep in contact with you and continue to support each other during these difficult and uncertain times.
In the meantime, we will continue to provide childcare provision for our key workers at Bicton.
Take care
Mrs Johnson and staff

Reading Planet update

We are aware that some of you are having difficulty viewing /accessing  the books assigned by teachers and, in some cases, it appears as though books haven’t been assigned when they have.

We can only apologise for this inconvenience – the issues are with the Reading Planet website and are beyond our control. Please continue to contact your child’s class teacher to report any issues and we thank you for your patience.

Hello everyone

I hope you have had a good week and enjoyed the return of the sunshine. It seems strange celebrating VE Day at home and it’s sad not being able to get together with all my family. I know you will be celebrating this special day in different ways whether it be putting up bunting, baking or watching the Queen’s speech and the other commemorative broadcasts on TV.  Whatever you are doing, I hope you are keeping well and staying safe. I hope you have a lovely day and please feel free to email in any pictures of your day!

Home access to Sing Up

Sing Up, a singing website which we subscribe to in school, have created a Home area on their website which is totally free and accessible to parents and families. They are uploading videos and resources for children and their families to make the most of singing whilst at home. Click on this link www.singup.org/singupathome to visit their website.

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi Foundation have launched a new, free Digital Making at Home initiative to support parents and young people with coding at home. You don’t need any coding experience to join in, and all of their resources and activities are free forever.

Every Monday, they release new themed code-along videos about projects designed for all levels of ability. They also provide support tutorials for parents who are interested in learning more about coding tools like Scratch and Python, and over 200 projects with step-by-step instructions that are accessible online at any time — all for free.

Sign up now to start receiving free activities suitable to your child’s age and ability straight to your inbox.

First News

We hope your child has enjoyed reading First News over the past couple of weeks and, if they haven’t had chance to, why not have a read of the latest editions below.

First News VE Day Edition

And finally…

I’ve had a  lovely week in school with our key workers’ children and other staff. We have been gardening, having some very competitive staff v children table-tennis battles (Miss Carr and Mr Andrews not me!), painting VE Day pebbles with Miss Stone and just generally looking after each other.

All was going well until Thursday morning when I decided to cycle to school rather than walk and, let’s just say, my short journey didn’t go as planned. I fell off my bike on the way to school and ended up at RSH with a fractured humerus.  The NHS staff were absolutely amazing and really looked after me, even though they could have done without it with so much else to do.

My husband has been a star and has been taught how to blow-dry and straighten my hair this morning, much to our amusement!

So the next time I tell the children to be careful during a school holiday, and not to come back with any broken bones, I need to follow my own advice!

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Love Mrs Johnson x

Free School Transport – Secondary School (Yr 6’s only)

Please find information received from the Transport team at Shropshire Council regarding the deadline for completing transport applications for secondary school in September.

Any parents/carers of year 6 pupils, who wish to apply for free school transport for their child/children from September 2020, should do so before 31st May 2020. Applications can be made online at www.shropshire.gov.uk or over the phone with the Council’s Customer Service Team by calling 0345 6789008. Alternatively, should you require a paper copy of the application form, please do not hesitate to contact the school or Passenger Transport directly via email, schooltransport@shropshire.gov.uk or over the phone on the above telephone number. It is important to explain that, if the application is not received by 31st May 2020, the Authority may be unable to provide transport for the beginning of the autumn term 2020 and parents/carers will need to make their own transport arrangements. Access to school transport is not permitted until entitlement has been confirmed.

Hello everyone

I hope you have had a good week despite the frequent showers!

I hope the children have been enjoying doing the activities uploaded to the website every Monday morning and if they haven’t had chance please don’t worry. The health and wellbeing of our families and staff is what is important and we just want you all to stay safe and well.  If your child wants to email any photos of their work to show us what they have been doing or just drop us an email to say ‘hello’ we would love to hear from them!

Year 5/6 brass – home access to Charanga/Yumu

Mr Alridge (our Year 5/6 brass teacher) is able to create individual pupil accounts for the online music platform (Charanga/Yumu) that he uses in our brass lessons. This will enable children to access the same music covered in lessons, as well as explore new material. If you are interested, please email him on the details below.
